LookingGlass Alice Review – Run to See it!

Lookingglass Alice is a truly marvelous show. It is full of laughs, smiles, surprises, audience participation and acrobatics. The show is supremely unorthodox in a very special way. I will not go into too much detail, since I don’t want to ruin any of the delicious surprises.

It’s 90 minutes straight with no intermissions, so get nice and liquored and up and pee before you go. The show transpires on the magnificent stage and backstage of the Ziff Opera Theater. When you leave the show remember that! I stayed to linger on the stage, fully appreciating it, while everyone else was hurrying off stage. This might be your only chance to be on the Ziff Opera Stage, so take it all in, stop and feel the “spotlight” and savor it.

The 5 actors are extraordinary talented. They play multiple characters, are hilarious and acrobatic. It is the most unique and quite possibly best reinterpretation of Alice in Wonderland I’ve ever witnessed.

The renowned cast is comprised of Adeoye (Cheshire Cat and others) who made his South Florida debut earlier this season with The House Theatre of Chicago’s production of The Magnificents; Molly Brennan (Red Queen and others), named Chicago’s “Queen of Mischief and Make Believe” by American Theatre magazine and recipient of two Jeff Awards; Kevin Douglas (Mad Hatter and others), a Jeff Award nominee for best supporting actor in Around the World in 80 Days; Samuel Taylor (White Knight and others), credits include Peter Pan (A Play) and TV credits “Boardwalk Empire,” and Lindsey Noel Whiting (Alice) whose credits include The Snow Queen (Victory Gardens), Once Upon A Time.

The audience when I went was pretty lame. The actors were practically pleading with us to get involved and participate, but everyone was ridiculously shy. When you go, GET ROWDY! It’s kind of like a big party and the more you get into it, the funner it shall be. Hence my recommendation to get liquored up prior. Make sure to sit in the middle section too and the first 5 rows give you the best chance of participating. Enjoy your trip down the entertaining rabbit hole.
