Sweetness Bakeshop – A Family’s Sweet Labor of Love

Sweetness Bakeshop – A Family’s Sweet Labor of Love

By Samantha Dockser

Sweetness Bakeshop, owned by the Diaz family, has been baking up sweet treats in South Miami since 2010. With their creative combinations of flavors and innovative desserts, Sweetness Bakeshop is not to be missed.

Not only are their desserts beautiful and delicious, which I will get to in a moment, but also their shop is adorable. The walls are painted with cute phrases and adorned with witty art. A personal favorite reads “Chocolate makes your clothes shrink.” The bakeshop feels like a home, which makes sense as it is a family’s labor a love.

Stephanie, co-owner, explains that growing up her mother always baked and had dreamed of owning her own bakeshop. However, she always felt it was more important for her to be home for her children. But after her kids graduated from college, they made their mother’s dream a reality. In 2010, mid recession, Sweetness Bakeshop opened its doors, and has been going strong ever since.

Sweetness Bakeshop is known for their signature flavors. These include the Guava & Cheese Cupcakes, Cake n’ Shakes, Crack Cookies and Key Lime Dessert Shots. The ever-changing menu also includes limited-edition and seasonal flavors. For example, the month of February is all about Red Velvet and Love.

Sometimes you need a lil Sweet with your savory. Amazon has a Truffle Honey that is perfect for pizza,, cheese and other goodies:

While in the shop I got to try some of these mouth watering treats. My sampling of cupcakes included Thrilla In Vanilla, Guayabera, Nuts About You, Dolce de Leche, Red Velvet, and Chocolate Covered Strawberry.

The Dulce de Leche was hands down my favorite. Salty and sweet, this Cupcake is filled with a Caramel Crème that tasted like heaven.

The Red Velvet, a Valentine’s month favorite, is topped with a classic Cream Cheese Frosting.

Nuts About You was another favorite. This Vanilla Cake cupcake is topped with Nutella Butter Cream Frosting and Coconut. Having never tried the combination of Nutella and Coconut, I was wary. But together, those flavors are a dream team.

In addition to cupcakes, Sweetness Bakeshop serves some non-traditional flavors of cookies. Their Guava Maria cookie contains caramelized Guava and Maria Cracker. Again, having never had a Guava Cookie, I was unsure of how this would taste. But it was one of the most delicious cookies I’ve ever had. Rarely are cookies fruity and sweet, and that is clearly a mistake. All cookies should be as delicious as the Guava Maria.

I also enjoyed the Cake Batter Cookie. Full of sprinkes, this cookie reminded me of elementary school birthday parties. Playful and sweet, this cookie was a treat 🙂

Sweetness Bakeshop also produces its own line of cereal milk. I tried the Cap’N Crunch Flavored Milk, and that is exactly what that tasted like. Just like the bottom of the bowl after you’ve finished the cereal, this milk tasted exactly like Cap’n Crunch. And I loved it! From now on, I wish I could only drink milk that sweet. I would be down to lie to myself and pretend it’s even healthier than 2% milk. Because, after all, its 100% delicious.

Sweetness Bakeshop also sells a wide variety of Macarons. My favorite of the many flavors was the Tiramisu. It had a terrific Coffee flavor. Basically, I am a fan of everything I tasted. And Sweetness Bakeshop’s extensive menu leaves new treats to constantly be tasted. It’s really a shame I only discovered Sweentess Bakeshop during my college senior spring. I can’t wait to go back to try some of their award winning Milkshakes, Cake Pops, and more Cupcakes!
