Sophie’s Bar – Miami Newest Fun & Affordable Lounge

Conceptualized and designed by owner and SoFi local Philippe Falca – creator of Minibar and partner in The Bar Collective, Sophie’s is a late 90s French-inspired lounge blending erotica and luxury with South Beach’s undeniable energy. The result is a chic, female-friendly destination in the South of Fifth district with an attentive and hospitable staff.

Housed in the former Radio bar space of which Falca was one of the masterminds of, and in partnership with Urbanica Hotel, Sophie’s made a splash on the scene with its opening on December 5, 2018 during Art Basel. It quickly became the go-to late night destination for the globetrotting trendsetters that descended unto Miami Beach for the famed art fair.

The lounge’s sensual environment consists of a patio area and a small lounge that accommodates up to 180 guests. The main point of entry is a discovery in of itself as patrons make their way through the back alley, under a pink awning manned by a friendly doorman who’s only requirement for entry is to respect to the neighborhood’s residents by minimizing the noise when arriving. Once inside, an intimate patio featuring white marble tables, an eclectic collection of patio string seating, colorful stools and a geometric floor mural by local artist Ryan Troy are highlighted by the eye-catching pink walls depicting two distinct images of The Pink Panther leading guests into the main bar and lounge through red velvet curtains that frame the room.

Inside, pink velvet tufted couches are surrounded by Sophie’s signature wallpaper on the west wall, which features its mascots (abstract, naked female charicatures with red heart-shaped bottoms created by Johanna Oceane Nault – @jojo.nault) in various seductive positions and playful poses. The east wall, which houses the bar, complements the overall aesthetic with a black stucco shimmering effect. The bar is designed with a white marble countertop and a base upholstered in shamrock-colored velvet and black leather barstools with sleek, golden industrial legs. A vintage mirror runs across the wall behind the bar, framed by wood dipped in gold and decorated with dried flower sprigs in glass cylinder vases. Black marble high table tops are arranged across the bar while pink velvet booths line the far right and left corners of the venue, accented by black wooden tables and burgundy velvet metro barrel chairs, illuminated by French empire crystal chandeliers.

The innovative bar program created by head mixologist David Cedeno delivers delicious, elegant craft cocktails using local ingredients and cleverly themed (sometimes interactive) names. Two standouts that incorporate Minibar and Urbanica hotel are Next Stop Mini Bar where guests who order the cocktail receive a non-alcoholic beverage for their leisurely walk to Minibar, that is then completed upon arrival with a mini bottle of alcohol; and Let’s Get A Room, which comes with a hotel room at Urbanica Hotel and bottle of prosecco for a discounted rate of $190. Other notables include Ménage à Trois with Absolut Vodka Lime, Sparkling Rose Wine and cucumber water; Knee Trembler with Don Julio Tequila, smoky chocolate and orange; and Sophie’s Sazerac with Glenlivet Founders Reserve, Martell Cognac, sugar, bitters, clove and absinthe.

Sophie’s weekly specials includes Fun House Night on Thursdays featuring renowned house DJs, Jazzy Hour every Friday from 6pm – 9pm featuring rotating cocktail and pizza specials and open format on Saturdays and Sundays.

Sophie’s is located at 814 1st Street in South of Fifth (entrance through the alley).
