III Points Music Festival 2019 Review – Back and Better Than Ever

III Points Music Festival 2019 Review – Back and Better Than Ever

III Points Music Festival returned to Miami for its sixth year (add website link) over the weekend of February 15-17. After not having the festival in 2018, the festival creators came back this year stronger than ever! The diverse lineup attracted music lovers from all genres for a crazy weekend of dance, art, and incredible vibes. By far our favorite year yet!

Friday

Walking into the festival I was immediately overwhelmed with excitement going through the elaborately illuminated entrance. I felt as if I were entering an eclectic alien world. The adventure has officially started.

I started my night with Beach House at Main Frame. The stage was beautifully lit and the crowd was surprisingly manageable. Plenty of room to get funky! After an amazing set from Beach House, I wandered off to the Boiler Room. The vibes and beats in this room were tropical. I felt like I was in a foreign country at a secret boiler room set that I’ve always fantasized about. There were even eyes hanging from the ceiling witnessing all the wildness occurring.

The next set of the night for me was Tyler, The Creator. Rapping along to some of his old and new songs, I re-discovered my love for his music. Then he surprised us by bringing out one of his best friends, A$AP Rocky! After A$AP came out the crowd went crazy. It truly was a memorable experience for my friends and I.

Now it’s time to get weird with Virtual Self! For those of you that don’t know, Virtual Self is Porter Robinson’s alias. Virtual Self is not only a music set, but also a fascinating light show. The entire production is top-notch, delivering a set of fun techno, old-school dance remixes, and happy hard-style beats.

Saturday

Started Saturday by exploring the Aether by Max Cooper & Architecture Social Club. This 3-D lattice of light mapped to an immersive audio experience completely blew my mind. So many people gathered around admiring in awe the beauty of this art installation.

Time to skate and dance! III Points Music Festival brought back Skate Space again for another marvelous year. Before getting my skates, I enjoyed a delicious cocktail called Peach Don’t Kill My Vibe. This strong yet smooth drink consisted of Stillhouse Peach Tea Whiskey and lemonade. My friend ordered the You’re My Boy Blue, which had Stillhouse Original Whiskey, Red Bull Summer Edition, Ginger Beer, and lime. All the Stillhouse cocktails sounded superb and I wanted to try them all. But first, skate time!

I never imagined skating on a roller skating rink while dancing to some groovy DJs and producers, AND enjoying specialty cocktails. The last time I skated was when I was a little girl, and yes we danced to roller-rink DJs, but nothing ever like this. I felt the nostalgia start to hit me as I skated around with my friends laughing and smiling. After skating we went back to the bar for more Stillhouse drinks.

Masego was my first official set of the night. Masego is a multi-instrumental artist, producing jazzy-dance beats that everyone can enjoy. During the set, he played my favorite song, “Tadow”. After hearing this song which features FKJ, I left the set content and happy-hearted.

Later Saturday night I went to SZA’s set. Such a gorgeous, talented young lady, radiating so much love and light into the music scene. She put on an elegant performance for the ladies and fellas. The last set of the night for me was James Murphy (DJ Set). James Murphy is leader of LCD Soundsystem and co-founder of DFA Records. Having been a legend and early influencer in the electronic music scene, his set was the most anticipated of the night.

Sunday

Looking back, Sunday was my favorite day. There was perfect weather, and the vibes were phenomenal. I could not stop gloating about the Skate Space stage, so I had to go back for more. Upon arriving to the Skate Space stage, The Galactic Effect was getting ready to take over. The Galactic Effect is a native Floridian from Miami who loves incorporating a vast array of styles, realms, visuals, and story-telling into his music. Before his set began, my friends and I grabbed another round of Stillhouse cocktails. The music started and it was time to frolic!

Erykah Badu performed an amazing set later that night at the Mind Melt Stage. The set was cheerful, yet powerful. I was mesmerized by the strength and passion in her performance.

Wanting to go on an adventure, I walked over to the Isotropic stage. This was my favorite stage at the festival. The stage was setup like a trippy-festival garden paradise. Everywhere I looked I was left speechless by the organic and psychedelic vibes in the air. By far the best stage at III Points Music Festival.

I fortunately stumbled upon the Weed Maps School Bus. This was better than finding “The Magic School Bus”. The bus was sponsored by Weed Maps, an app that allows you to find medical and recreational marijuana dispensaries, brands, deliveries, deals and doctors near you. This app makes getting a hold of medical and recreational marijuana extremely easy and convenient. So, as you can guess… the bus was full of stoners, but the fun kind. Everyone was so friendly and giggly, it was like back in the old days of riding the bus, but 420-friendly version.

The set I had been waiting for all weekend was finally here, A$AP Rocky. I had been a fan for years, but never had the pleasure of seeing him live until this very moment. He started his set by coming out and singing, but by covering his appearance with a curtain creating a sexy and mysterious silhouette. Once the curtain finally dropped, the crowd started jumping. Everyone was filled with so much excitement for what was about to be the best set of the weekend. Halfway through the set, A$AP brought out Tyler, The Creator. Watching their friendship on stage was so heartwarming and made me grateful that I was surrounded by my best friends.

The set ended and we re-grouped to grab a late-night snack before leaving the festival. Before exiting the festival, my friends and I gathered together for a ‘festival family’ group hug. It was a bittersweet feeling, knowing we had just experienced a wonderful weekend together but that it was coming to an end. With that being said, we can’t wait for the return of III Points Music Festival! See you there!
