Free Movies Under the Stars Miami

NR Investments, a Miami-based developer and pioneer behind the burgeoning Arts + Entertainment District of Greater Downtown Miami, announced today an exciting partnership with  Miami Dade College’s Miami International Film Festival. As part of the partnership, the Festival is introducing free “Movies Under the Stars”, a series to take place in the A+E District at CANVAS (90 NE 17th Street).

The complimentary series will kick-start Miami International Film Festival’s 32nd edition happening on March 6-15, 2015. The NR Investments and the Festival partnership will launch the series on January 22nd with the film Vinyl Days (Días de vinilo) directed by Gabriel Nesci.  This Argentine/Colombian male romantic comedy made its US theatrical debut in Miami and received rave reviews during its international circuit run.

On February 26th, Canadian film Café de Flore will screen. This film by director, screenwriter and editor Jean-Marc Vallée, is a dramatic love story between both a man and a woman as well as a woman and her son. This film garnered thirteen nominations for the 2012 Genie Awards, an award ceremony that recognizes the best of Canadian films. Vallée also directed last year’s Oscar-winning Dallas Buyers Club.

“This partnership fully embodies our goal to make the district a hub of Arts + Entertainment,” said NRI Principals and Co-Founders, Ron Gottesman and Nir Shoshani. “The Festival fosters creativity and expression, both of which we aim to cultivate within the area.”

“The film series reflects our goal to bridge cultural understanding and encourage artistic development and excellence,” stated Executive Director of Miami International Film Festival, Jaie Laplante. “Provoking thought through film aligns with NR Investment’s mission for the Arts + Entertainment District, and we are excited to be a part of the transformation.”
