Cinco de Mayo Miami Recipes

It’s almost Cinco de Mayo Miami, the holiday very few people know what the hell we are actually celebrating. That does not stop us from putting on fake Mexican mustaches and drinking copious amounts of liquor like it will evaporate out of existence the next day. In preparation for May’s most important drinking holiday, we have rounded up some kick ass liquor recipes and the spots that are slinging them. Be sure to wear your best poncho/sombrero for Mexican drinking games and enjoy Cinco de Mayo Miami Recipes!

While Botran’s Piña-Ta is not on any menu in Miami, Bernie at the Edition Hotel created the drink and can make it upon request.

Living Room - Mezcal Unido 1
Mezclado Unido  

Yields 1 cocktail

1.5 oz.             Vida mezcal

.5 oz.               Ancho Reyes

.5 oz.               Aperol

.5 oz.               Lime Juice

.5 oz.               Simple Syrup

2                     Fresh Grapefruit segments

Fresh Basil (a few sprigs)

Club Soda (topper)

Directions: Muddle the grapefruit and basil.  Add mescal, Ancho Reyes, lime juice and simple syrup.  Shake and strain into Highball glass.  Top off with Club Soda and garnish with fresh basil sprig.

Playing with Fire 

Yields 1 cocktail

2 oz.                Jalapeño Infused Cabo Wabo Tequila

½ oz.               Agave Nectar

2                      Cucumber Slices

Directions: Muddle 2 cucumber slices and agave nectar together. Add ice, Jalapeño infused Cabo Wabo tequila and squeeze the entire lime. Shake, strain and serve over ice in a rocks glass. Float a paper thin slice of cucumber on top of drink for an optional garnish.

Casa Dragones at Dolce Italian & Fontainebleau

1-Casa Dragones - Cilantro Margarita

Cilantro Margarita 

Yields 1 cocktail

1 ½ oz.            Casa Dragones Blanco

¾ oz.               Cointreau

¾ oz.               Lime Juice

½ oz.               Simple Syrup

Handful of Cilantro

Pinch Salt

Directions: Muddle cilantro, add Casa Dragones Blanco, Cointreau, lime juice and simple syrup. Blend ingredients briefly, then strain through a tea strainer and shake before serving.

 

Pink Panther Yields 1 cocktail

2 oz.                Casa Dragones Blanco

½                     Grapefruit (juiced)

4                      Limes (juiced)

¼ oz.               Agave Nectar

1 oz.                Fever Tree Ginger Ale

2                      Dashes of Bitter Celery Shrub

1                      Hibiscus Flower

1                      Lime Wheel

Directions: Add Casa Dragones Blanco, grapefruit juice, lime juice, agave néctar and bitter celery shrub to a shaker. Shake with ice and fine strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Top with Fever Tree Ginger Ale. Garnish with a lime wheel and a Hibiscus flower.

Watermelon margarita

In the spirit of Cinco de Mayo, French Mediterranean restaurant Villa Azur is mixing up a delicious libation for the Mexican celebration. Utilizing crisp seasonal ingredients including watermelon, cilantro, and fresh lime, Head Bartender Martin Gutierrez concocts his delectable Watermelon Cilantro Margarita with a Don Julio Reposado base and a splash of cointreau, making it the ideal cocktail to enjoy on the 5th of May. Price is $14.

Watermelon Cilantro Margarita 

2 pieces of fresh watermelon

6 cilantro leaves

2 pieces of fresh lime

Splash of agave nectar

2 oz of don Julio reposado tequila

1 oz of Cointreau

Method: Muddle watermelon, cilantro, and lime in a cocktail shaker. Add 2 oz. of Don Julio Reposado, 1 oz. Cointreau, and a splash of agave nectar. Shake and double strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a watermelon spear and a sprig of cilantro.
