Faena Festival: The Last Supper
Faena Art will present its second annual Faena Festival; running from December 2nd – 8th, the Faena Festival: The Last Supper is an exploration of spirituality and food, abundance and sacrifice, indulgence and abstinence, and archetypal symbolism and contemporary aesthetics.
All programs will be free and open to the public.
Curated by Zoe Lukov, Chief Curator at Faena Art, the Festival takes the pulpit and the kitchen as its point of departure, invites us to break bread together, and posits the shared meal or prayer as the crux of social interaction and communal connectivity. The Last Supper will feature seminal works and newly-commissioned installations and performances by renowned and emerging artists throughout the Faena District, including:
- Gabriel Chaile, an Argentine artist whose work reflects the aesthetics of his community and their shared regional indigenous cultures, will present his largest commission to date: a collection of six totems that reference indigenous wayfinders or talismans—one of which will also work as a functional oven to bake bread. These large-scale adobe sculptures will recall images from anthropological and theological studies, while also insisting on a contemporary assemblage of images and aesthetics from across the Americas. Faena Hotel Public Space. From 6pm on Monday, December 2-Sunday, December 8. On view throughout the week. Bread Baking Ceremonies: Dates and time to be announced.
- Zhang Huan, a Chinese painter, photographer, sculptor, performance artist, and opera director, will present Miami Buddha. The monumental work will feature two 17-foot Buddhas sitting face to face—one an aluminum mold, the other made of incense ash imbued with the prayers of untold worshippers that the artist collected from temples around China. During its installation on the beach, the ash Buddha will be exposed to the elements and may crumble and disintegrate—a meditation on the impermanence of life, the cyclicality of destruction and renewal, and the reincarnation of death and rebirth. Faena Beach. From 6pm on Monday, December 2-Sunday, December 8. On view throughout the week. Unmasking Ceremony of the Buddha will be held on Monday, December 2 at 7pm.
- The mobile video installations feature both new commissions and seminal works screened on an LED billboard boat on the waterways of Miami Beach.
- The Cinema Series invites viewers to engage in the contemporary collective ritual of going to the movies. Throughout the week, films will be screened on Faena Beach from a boat stationed on the water, as well as in the screening room at the Faena Hotel, with both areas becoming public spaces of congregation.

The Museum is the brainchild of lead curator Alan Ket, a well-known graffiti artist, art collector, and historian and his business partner, Miami native and prominent attorney, Allison Freidin.
Centrally located in the epicenter of color and creativity, amongst the instagrammer’s paradise of Wynwood, the space is covered with vivid murals and destined to become a major cultural hub. The museum encompasses a permanent exhibition, two feature exhibition galleries, a rotating site-specific immersive installation and a gift shop all of which will invite collaboration and conversation.

The exhibition The Eroticism of Things traces the material and immaterial production of eroticism. Using examples culled from the collections of sexologists Magnus Hirschfeld and Alfred Kinsey, as well as from Naomi Wilzig’s art collection, it sheds light on differing natures of and intents in collecting, classifying, presenting, and interpreting erotic things. This is a joint exhibition by the Research Center for the Cultural History of Sexuality at Humboldt University, Berlin and the Werkbundarchiv – Museum der Dinge. Produced in collaboration with the Kinsey Institute and The Naomi WEAM. Website: www.weammuseum.com.

Art Fairs –
Spectrum Miami & Red Dot Miami:
Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami will return to Mana Wynwood, with both fairs now located inside the Convention Center for the very first time – offering the only “Two Shows Under One Roof” and new world-class experience for both exhibitors and art enthusiasts during this year’s Miami Art Week, taking place December 4—8, 2019. Both shows will cover more than 100,000 square feet of indoor exhibition space and be even more accessible for visitors on foot and by car, all within walking distance from Wynwood’s trendiest restaurants, bars and retail boutiques.
Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami form the acclaimed contemporary and fine art experience that collectively presents some of today’s most coveted national and international galleries and artists from the U.S and around the world. Redwood Media Group exclusively produces the two art shows housed in one location—considered to be the only multi-show production of its kind during Miami Art Week. To purchase tickets click here.
At Spectrum Miami, we are most excited for the artist Conscious Clay. Conscious Clay considers himself a modern historian of Western culture and explores themes relating to vanity, ignorance, excess, lust, love, and the interplay between. His more recent works pertain to the phenomena of the perception of a quasi-religious experience the consumeristic society has engrained into the purchasing of luxury goods and the esteem that is held to the brands themselves. “/cc:” as he signs his paintings believes that if we don’t start thinking globally in terms of ways we can best support one another and survive as a whole then we will inevitably destroy ourselves and his art pieces will be hard copy relics of a time when the worst parts of ourselves took hold and lead us down a path of no return.
SHOW HOURS
Thursday – Saturday December 5 – 7: 12:00PM – 8:00PM.
Sunday, December 8th: 12:00PM – 6:00PM.
You Can’t Eat Money:
Immerse yourself into a one-of-a-kind dystopian experience, featuring over 5,000 square feet of interactive installations and more than 50 pieces of the artist’s most recent infinity works.
Award-winning glass artist Zac M. Knudson has been dazzling visitors at fairs around the world and shaking up the art scene for over 15 years. His latest project lands at Canvas Miami Gallery. The exhibition, “You Can’t Eat Money,” will feature an interactive experience centered around artwork from the artist’s poignantBees Die We Die and Petty Cash series.
This cogent and provocative exhibition is the biggest undertaking for the South Florida native to date and will include interactive, site specific installations, as well as new artwork never before seen by the public. In his work, Knudson captures the zeitgeist of modern culture; our collective obsession with excess, convenience at the expense of the environment, and preoccupation with money… Just to name a few. All of these themes are executed with the intention to poke fun at the undeniable mess we as humans have found ourselves in.
“You can’t eat money is a body of work that aims to illuminate an unavoidable truth: that we have all been lied to about pretty much everything. Every day is one big, fat manufactured reality. Our food is poison, our water doubles as our trash can, and our government has tricked us into trading most of our free lives for worthless paper. But, don’t worry, my intention is not to spread depression and fear— but instead to make fun of our broken mess of a life and show it in a unique, visually stimulating way. The works in this show are larger-than-life exaggerations of our daily lives that will have you laughing while simultaneously questioning your very existence. Warning: If you are easily offended… Come on in…” – Artist, Zac Knudson.
The exhibition will be on show from December 5 – 8, 2019 at Canvas Miami Gallery at 3050 Biscayne Blvd, Suite 101 Lobby, Miami, FL 33137. Exhibition is free to the public, click here to register.

Known as “The Dutch Master of Light,” Boin’s art is focused on light, geometry, and spirituality. His latest collection, Geometry is Life, is specifically designed as a futuristic, visual sensory experience to capture realism in the subject using geometric designs. Enhanced by natural reflection as well as artificial 3D projection mapping, the collection is showcased in three separate categories, capturing the following elements: Natural Light, Enhanced Light and Artificial Light. More importantly, each artwork captures the balance between geometry, light and the spirit of the subject as if it were to come alive. ‘Geometry is Life’ is a visualization of the connection between geometry and the visual language that arises.
“Everything in life is based on balance. Geometry is the key to balance, according to the laws of the universe,” said Boin.
