Moulin Rouge Coming to The Best of France Festival

Moulin Rouge from Paris to NYC at The Best of France Festival

by Pablo Aguilar

The Moulin Rouge opened in 1889 and became the most famous international cabaret with its beautiful, skilled and adventurous dancers, lavish stage shows, fantastic music, and ornate, extravagant, feathery costumes adorned with Swarovski crystals and sequins.

It has been the home of immortal French celebrities such as Maurice Chevalier, Jean Gabin, Edith Piaf and Yves Montand, as well as unforgettable stars such as Ella Fitzgerald, Liza Minnelli, Frank Sinatra and Elton John, who have all performed exceptional shows on stage.

Moulin Rouge Dancers

The Moulin Rouge is widely known for its French Cancan, a high-energy and physically demanding music hall dance, traditionally performed by a chorus line of female dancers who wear costumes with long skirts, petticoats, and black stockings. The main feature of the dance is the lifting and manipulation of the skirts, with high kicking and suggestive, provocative body movements. Famous painter Toulouse-Lautrec was totally obsessed with drawing the “beautiful, skilled and adventurous dancers” and immortalized them his first advertising poster in 1891.

Finally, after a century, the celebrated Moulin Rouge of Paris will be entertaining New Yorkers. The cabaret company is participating in The Best of France Festival taking place in Times Square on September 26-27, the celebration is expected to have thousands of visitors over the course of the weekend.  Attendees will enjoy free entrance to walk the festival grounds and see abridged Moulin Rouge performances and fashion shows.

Get your feathery tails ready to enjoy “Le Mouline Rouge”, redefining burlesque.  Its performers not only entertain, but also entice and seduce the audience here in NYC”. Moulin Rouge is coming to The Best of France Festival.
