Matador Room Brunch Review – Brunching at an Oasis

Matador Room Brunch Review

Even though Miami is a precious tropical paradise, there are a few places you can go dine where you will feel as if you have been transported out of Miami. We recently visited the fun filled Edition Hotel to brunch at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Matador Room. Brunching on the Matador terrace overlooking the pool and ocean was a surreal experience. We felt as if we were at a 5 star resort on some remote Caribbean island. Check out our Matador Room Brunch review video.

Upon entry to the expansive Matador Terrace, we were led to a lush verdant oasis with custom trellis and climbing bougainvillea. The stunning terrace provides an ideal setting for this Sunday only brunch. The beachfront views overlooking the glistening aqua ocean and handsomely landscaped pool areas create a tranquil setting. At Matador, Chef Jean-Georges offers a distinct, modern interpretation of Latin cuisine influenced by Spanish, Caribbean and South American flavors that are integral to Miami.

Executive Chef Jeremy Ford (formerly at 15 Steps at the Eden Roc) dishes out a variety of options featuring locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. The seasonal menu offers savory brunch items such as Huevos Rancheros and Poached Eggs with Roasted Mushrooms, employing local organic farm eggs, as well as sweet variations like Coconut Pancakes with Grapefruit and Lavender Maple Syrup (pictured below) and Crunchy Mexican-Spiced French Toast with Apples that is tempting us to return.

Your first order of business is to vigorously jump on the incredible premium bottomless beverage option for only $44. If you do not order the bottomless option, one of these babies cost $17.  This is a superb deal when you divide it by 5 drinks and realize you are only paying $8.80 a pop! This option also allows you to choose from three different libations: Raspberry Lychee Bellinis, Bloody Marys or Mimosas. Just remember a brunch without booze is just a sad late breakfast.

Favorite plate of the day was the outstanding Blackened Florida Grouper Tacos that we could have eaten a platter of. The tortillas came from Taquiza, which makes the best tortillas in the state. The fish was juicy, mildly spicy and complemented by a great pickled slaw.
