Hutch Bistro – Comforting Brunch by Day, Enticing Craveables by Night

By Josephine Layug

How many of you have had a random day off during the week and all you wanted was brunch? Well, Hutch Bistro has your back. With the slogan “Craveable Comfort”, Hutch Bistro is a 7-day-a-week-brunch spot with equally enticing dinner and drink menus. While the food is craveable, the dining room is comforting; we felt like we were walking into our grandparents’ homes.

Hutch Bistro Interior

On our first visit, we sampled the brunch menu. Of course, we started with mimosas! We chose the Blood Orange Mimosas, but Hutch Bistro also offers White Peach and Strawberry. Our drinks were perfectly balanced between fruity puree and sparkling wine. Mmm!

Drinks were followed by the Totchos: Tater Tots covered in Pico de Gallo and Truffled Cheese Fondue, topped with a Fried Egg. We also had Pulled Bacon on the side. The crispiness of the tater tots and the ooey, gooey cheese was the perfect combination, but the pulled bacon really finished this dish off just right. Before anymore is mentioned, take note that we kept going back to the Totchos during our brunch. This is a must-have at Hutch Bistro!

Next was the Fried Chicken and Corn Waffle plate. A classic brunch go-to, our chicken and waffles came with Cheddar Cheese and Green Chiles. The Bacon Butter and Maple Syrup gave a sweet end to each bite.

We definitely required a lighter dish to continue our brunch escapade, so we ordered the Croissant French Toast. The fluffy airiness of the Croissant, the creaminess of the Mascarpone and the sweet Strawberries and Maple Syrup make for a great lighter alternative.

If a Spanish brunch is what you’re craving, try the Chilaquiles with Eggs. The Fried Tortillas, Scrambled Eggs, Chihuahua Cheese, Salsa Roja and Sour Cream took us right into Flavor Town.

Our final brunch dish was the Bistro Sandwich. Similar to a croque madam, our sandwich was composed of Ham, a Fried Egg and Maple Aioli, all piled into a Gouda-swirled Criossant. The Bistro Sandwich paired just right with a side of Hashbrown Casserole.

We returned on a weekday evening to partake in the dinner menu at Hutch Bistro. It was important to visit during both morning and night because the brunch menu and dinner menu are so vastly different in components.

Drinks were up first, obviously! We ordered the Strawberry Basil Lemonade and a Pomegranate Sangria. Both were equally refreshing and fruity; great palate cleaners for a night of feasting!

Hutch Bistro Lobster Nachos

For appetizers, we had the Meatballs and Pork Belly Carbonara and the Lobster Nachos. The Meatballs and Pork Belly Carbonara had wonderfully moist Meatballs resting in a creamy Pork Belly Carbonara Sauce. Served with Grilled Bread, we could not stop dipping into that sauce! A guest favorite, the Lobster Nachos were a bed of Wonton Chips buried under White Cheddar Truffle Sauce, Lobster, Red Onion, Peppadew and Green Onion. We’ll attest here and now that we completely understand why the Lobster Nachos are so popular.

Hutch Bistro Shortribs

For entrees, we first tried the Coffee Braised Shortrib. The Coffee Rub gave our Shortrib incredible flavor. This was served with a Roasted Parsnips Puree and Crispy Leeks in a Red Wine Reduction.

Next we had the Scallops, which was presented on a bed of Butternut Squash Risotto and Pork Belly. A delicious combination you won’t normally find!

We ordered the Panko Crusted Chicken. Our entrée had a juicy interior with a crispy exterior. This came with a Chive Mash, Arugula Salad with Lemon Butter and White Wine.

We were very impressed with the Black Bean Burger, which came on a Wheat Bun with Sriracha Aioli, Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Avocado and Tomato. The Chefs at Hutch Bistro achieved making a juicy vegetarian burger that didn’t fall apart in our hands. The Black Bean Burger makes for an excellent vegetarian option at this restaurant.

For the finale to our dining adventure, we had a slice of Red Wine Poached Peach Pie with a Crumble and Vanilla Ice Cream, courtesy of First Slice Café in Chicago. A sweet end to a jam-packed dinner!

Impossible as it may seem, our time at Hutch Bistro has only partially covered the menu offerings. This is a restaurant that you have to visit multiple times to really feel you know the place. Be careful, though, because choosing which craving to satisfy after trying everything may prove difficult! Hutch Bistro offers a plethora of specials including Happy Hour Monday-Friday, Weekday Brunch specials featuring Monday-Friday drink deals, and Nightly Features every day of the week. Bordering Wrigleyville and Boystown, you’ll find yourself at an appealing location to take a sit-down. “Craveable Comfort” is exactly what you’ll experience, so pull your hair up into a bun and stroll into Hutch Bistro for comfort food with craveable, unique touches.
