Wynwood Kitchen & Bar – An Edible & Visual Feast
Wynwood Kitchen & Bar, located as its name implies, in Wynwood, the arts hub of South Florida. Known for its artwork, restaurants, breweries, clothing stores, dance venues, etc; this particular establishment still manages to stand out and some say, may be right at the heart of it all. For this eatery not only features delicious food and drinks, but also a ton of art. Sharing its space with the Wynwood Walls, an outdoor museum showcasing large-scale works by some of the world’s best-known street artists, it displays creativity both indoor, out, and every crevice. Even the interior of the restaurant is adorned with Shepard Fairy‘s distinct style.
The food itself is as much of a creative expression as the works surrounding you. Carefully crafted into mouth-watering dishes with global-Latin flavors that feature plenty variety. There’s not one I’ve tasted that hasn’t delighted my taste-buds but here I’ll be focusing on some of their new menu items I just had the pleasure of savoring.
Since we had a hard time deciding through all the options, me and one of my girlfriends decided we’d just share our drinks and give ourselves more opportunity to try different ones, since they did all sounds so interesting. I started with the WKB Mule, featuring ketle one vodka, strawberry basil, fresh lime juice and ginger beer, my friend had the Shot of Love, with Peruvian Pisco 100, lychee puree, soho lychee, lime juice, mint and hibiscus flower, which might have something to do with its gorgeous pink ombre color. Bath bombs are cool, but I wish I could fill up my tub with that gorgeous rosey liquid and top it off with lychees and mint as they do… Cleopatra would be envious.
Our intro to a flavorsome feast was the Yellowtail Tiradito topped with blood orange, crispy quinoa and sesame. As quite the fan of yellowtail in all its raw forms, I’d say it takes some uniqueness to really impress me, and this dish definitely had some unusual flavors from the tiraditos I’m used to, and I say that in the best of ways. The blood orange really added sweetness and fun texture to the plate, as did the crispy quinoa. The Ceviche Mixto was also quite different, but also delicious and refreshing. It consisted of tuna, yellowtail, octopus, shrimp, yuzu, aguachile, and jicama.
We decided to change things up a “beet” with the Baby Beets, see what I did there? Garnished with whipped goat cheese, champagne honey, vinaigrette, blood orange and croutons. I’m normally not a huge fan of beets, I blame that time I did one of those detox juice cleanses, but my outlook actually changed a lot after this encounter with them. Their sugary taste and creamy goat cheese make me crave it as I write this.
At this point we were ready for more cocktails and ordered the Tony G, a concoction of bulleit bourbon, homemade spiced lemonade, drambuie and rosemary, and for contrast, the Fizz with Astoria prosecco, raspberry, peach puree and lemon twist. We also snacked on Shishito Peppers, spiced with adobo and lemon, but possibly one of my favorite dishes of all, was the Truffle Croquettas with pecorino, crimini mushrooms, and fresh shaved truffles. The crunchy outside, yet rich and melty inside is truly what dreams are made of. Although the most delightful of all were the visual delicacies that followed as we ended our dinner with a guided-tour through the Wynwood Walls.
