VooDoo Music and Arts Experience – the Perfect Halloween Festival
Halloween is a sacred time for those who are consistently looking to reach outside themselves. As the veil to the other side grows thin; kids, teens, and adults from all over prepare themselves for the horrifyingly homey feel of cobwebs, witches and ghouls. For those of us who wish to split their time praising the underworld and immersing ourselves into the other-worldliness that music festivals bring – VooDoo Music and Arts Experience is where you need to be for Halloween.
Nestled in the hotbed of superstition, Voodoo, and ghostly apparitions, VooDoo Music and Arts Experience calls New Orleans home. Smack dab in the middle of City Park, VooDoo plans to bring out the best in music, art, and overall spookiness. Not only does VooDoo provide its ghoulish festivalgoers with top-billing radio-dominating artist such as The Weekend, and the Chainsmokers. They’re also hosting some of the best in every genre of music.
The beautiful dark souls of VooDoo are bringing out the best in the eerie, and absolutely magnificent. Acts include Tool, What So Not, and ESPECIALLY the masters in creepy-wonderful Die Antwoord. I’m especially excited to see Die Antwoord, who just released their newest album, Mt. Ninji and da Nice Time Kid. My favorite musical duo is SURE to not only bring the crowd to their feet, but knowing Ninja’s unnerving creative style and Yolandi’s just overall being – Seeing them on Halloween will please every bone in my sinister body. Check out this peek into their new album, including dark and housey (with thanks to GOD) BANANA BRAIN.
Aside from the music, though, VooDoo Music and Arts Experience is exactly that – an experience. While you’re not grooving, jamming, or rocking out to any one of the MANY acts VooDoo has in store for the weekend, there is so much more to see and do not only in the festival grounds, but all around New Orleans.
VooDoo Music and Arts Experience prides itself on being a perfect mixture on music, art, community, cuisine plus all the mystery and macabre Halloween weekend in New Orleans could possibly represent. There is so much to go over in regards to VooDoo but naturally the best place to start is the food.
The Forked Up Food Court is a menagerie of southern staples and New Orleans deliciousness. Known for its incredible eats, New Orleans is a culinary jackpot in and of itself. The Forked Up Food Court will feature some of the best traditional Nola dishes as well as plenty of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. There is a little something for everyone to try, and everyone should try a little of something. Vendors are open all day and will accept cash credit and debit (Hallelu!).
All across the festival grounds of City Park, VooDoo Music and Arts Experience will be hosting interactive and completely immersive large-scale art installations. This living breathing artistic world seemingly ripped from the mind of Tim Burton adds a creative and haunting vibe to the air. As you wander through the grounds you can lose yourself in the multitude of art installations to take your mind away to that special, creepy place. Envisioned by some of the world’s most innovative artistic talents, these sculptures, murals, and interactive pieces beckon you. Get pulled away from whatever mindset you were previously in and find yourself in a world of art, color, and imagination.
If you’ve already explored the art and you need a break from the music, you can always explore the Big Easy itself! If you do anything during this weekend Grab your Gris Gris and take a tour of the French Quarter for a truly memorable Halloween. I would highly recommend taking the Haunted History Tour, specifically the French Quarter Ghosts & Legends Tour.
From the 28-30th there will be a world of fun, imagination, music and most importantly HALLOWEEN right in the middle of the countries most historically spooky places. VooDoo Music and Arts Experience is every little bit of the Halloween spirit combined with the life altering vibes of the best music you could ask for. Join me, and thousands of others in New Orleans to truly experience the Halloween Spirit with top acts and an unprecedented experience.
