Vagabond Sushi Bar – Ridiculously Supple Sushi from Japan

Vagabond Sushi Bar – Ridiculously Supple Sushi

MiMo’s iconic Vagabond Hotel debuts the new Vagabond Village, including Vagabond Sushi Bar & Market, Brigitte at Vagabond and The Oasis Pool & Bar at Vagabond. The brainchild of Amir Ben Zion (Bond St, Miss Yip, Buck 15, Bardot and Gigi), Vagabond Village feels like a place you’ve always known.  Nostalgic memories stem from menu items, eclectic design, personal art collections and most of all phenomenal sashimi…

Vagabond Sushi Bar ships sushi direct from Japan, expertly sliced and prepared by executive chef Mike Hiraga (formerly from Blue Ribbon and Bond St).  Discover an extensive Nigiri and Sashimi list, Izakaya-style global plates, Bento Boxes, innovative cocktails and premier sake and wine menu.  Omakase reigns at the sushi bar.

Ben Zion fully renovated the restaurant as his personal space with eclectic design and collaborations by local artist Juan Rozas.  Vagabond Sushi Bar is warm and sexy with gorgeous lighting, plush bar stools, sunken bar banquets, and a tropical outdoor patio. Open nightly from 6 pm until late, 7 days a week with weekend brunch service.

We had a chance to visit Vagabound Sushi Bar and was profoundly impressed with their Sashimi. We were told they fly the sushi in from Japan fresh daily and it sure tasted like it! Sooooo fresh, silky and flavorful. We highly recommend you order the SASHIMI DELUXE (3 PC. OF EACH) $32 TUNA / SALMON / HAMACHI / MADAI / SCALLOP / AJI OR SABA. Our faves were the Salmon and tuna. Still dreaming about this Sashimi Platter!

Other favorites were the SWEET CORN ON THE COB$6 with TOGARACHI MISO BUTTER. This butter is not too sweet, but highly addictive.

The CHILEAN SEA BASS $28 with ENGLISH PEA HUMMUS, CUCUMBER FENNEL SALAD was cooked to utter perfection. Crispy on thou outside, yet succulent AF when you sank your lucky mouth into it!

For dessert you MUST order the TORREJA $10 CINNAMON, BAKED APPLES, VANILLA ICE CREAM. This Latin version of French toast kick the ass of the French version and is the perfect end to your delightful meal!

In addition The Vagabond Market is attached to the restaurant is an Asian-style Bazaar of essentials.  Grab sushi favorites, quick dinners, sake, wine, beer, candy, gifts, flowers and unique entertaining finds.  Perch at the communal table and order a glass while custom orders are prepared.

Brigitte is an intimate bar and billiard lounge with full cocktail and bottle menu, open nightly 8 pm until late.  She’s the place where stories are made, and kept. Reminisce over the 1948 Brunswick certified competition pool table and Ben Zion’s personal art collection.

The Oasis pool and bar pops with a lush, tropical vibe.  A sparkling new drinking bar, teak chairs and chaise lounges surround the pool and its mosaic mermaid and dophins.  The Oasis showcases local musicians Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6 pm to 12 am.  Certain to be THE Upper Eastside commune, The Oasis is open 6 pm to 12 am during the week and 12 pm to 12 am weekends.
