Vacations to Joyfully Escape The Winter
Ever want to just escape the Winter? Most people tend to take their vacations in the Summer – in one survey by Ask Target Market, 59% of respondents said that’s when they’ll enjoy theirs, with nearly half noting they’d take off in July. But there are reasons to vacation in every season, including to escape the winter. This time of year can be ideal in many ways, often bringing fewer crowds, reduced accommodation rates, and likely cheaper flights too.
You can travel to somewhere that enjoys a mild climate, or enjoy an adventure among a winter wonderland. Whatever your preference, at least a few of these destinations are sure to convince you that your next vacation should be in the wintertime.
San Diego, California
Are you tired of scraping your car windows and shoveling snow? You might want to head to San Diego, renowned for its year-round pleasant weather that includes frequent sunny skies. Enjoy a ton of attractions and activities from strolls on the beach and whale watching to visiting the world-renowned San Diego Zoo. Just be warned, it might be so enticing that buying a home among San Diego real estate is put on the agenda too.
New Zealand
Want to enjoy summer during the winter? By heading to the Southern Hemisphere, which experiences summer in December, January, and February, you can. And, if you’re looking for a trip of a lifetime, it’s hard to beat New Zealand, which truly offers something for everyone. It’s an outdoor adventurer’s paradise, with opportunities for zip-lining, surfing, kayaking, Zorbing, hiking, biking, rafting, and just about everything else you can think of. Soak in natural hot springs, check out amazing geothermal features, paddle among whales and dolphins, discover gorgeous hidden beaches, hop on a helicopter flight and land on a glacier, go wine tasting, or just be mesmerized by the breathtaking and remarkably diverse scenery.
Caladesi Island, Florida
Another option that doesn’t require a passport, Caladesi Island, has been referred to as one of America’s top-secret islands. Accessed by ferry from nearby Honeymoon Island State Park, it offers warm weather year-round while boasting three miles of pristine, white sandy beaches that offer some of the best beachcombing for seashells on the Gulf of Mexico. Taking a walk on the boardwalk nature trail brings the chance to spot rare gopher tortoise. If you rent a kayak, you can paddle around the island’s bayside to spot osprey, heron, and other birds that inhabit the seagrass flats. Since there are no hotels on the island, just across St. Joseph Sound on the Gulf Coast in the Dunedin/Clearwater area, you’ll find plenty of options.
Iceland
If a magical white wonderland in an exotic destination sounds ideal, Iceland in the winter is sure to be an experience you’ll never forget. You might be surprised to find that winters are a lot milder than you think. Due to the warm Gulf Stream temperatures, Boston and New York City are often chillier than this country. But here, you may be able to watch the colorful northern lights, view out-of-this-world scenery, go underground to discover brilliant blue ice caves, soak in hot springs pools, and much more.
