Ubatuba Acai – A Taste of Brazil in LA
By Samantha Dockser
Ubatuba Acai, located in Koreatown as well as all over LA, prides itself on bringing Brazilian flavors to the Los Angeles community. They serve up delicious Acai Bowls, Empanadas, and Brigadeiros. With a knowledgeable team running the show, not only can you taste the flavors of Brazil, but you’ll get to learn about them as well.
Ubatuba Acai has an extensive menu with five set bowl options. But unlike most Acai spots, Ubatuba also gives you the option to make your own bowl! Renata at the Koreatown location made me a delicious “off the menu bowl” featuring Acai, Pitaya, Kiwi, Almonds, Cacao, and Bee Pollen. Left to my own devices, I would have never thought to put those flavors together, but it was delicious!
I also tasted Ubatuba Acai’s Almada Bowl. Made up of Acai topped with Bananas, Strawberries, Blueberries, and Granola, it is much more traditional in terms of flavors. With honey drizzled over the top, this is always my favorite bowl.

The empanadas here, like the bowls, range from traditional to unique. For instance, you can get a classic beef or chicken empanada. But you can also order flavors like Nutella with Oreo Cookies.
Being at Ubatuba Acai felt a lot like being at your best friend’s house growing up. It isn’t technically yours, but you feel welcome and comfortable. The food is all a tasty treat, and Ubatuba Acai even has board games! While I ate my bowls, I watched two female adults play Connect Four and gab over their bowls and empanadas. It was amazing.
If you find yourself in Koreatown needing a fruity Brazilian fix, be sure to stop in at Ubatuba Acai!
