TomorrowWorld Gift – A Weekend to Escape
The spirit of Tomorrow was alive and well in Chattahoochee Hills, GA the last weekend of September. Roughly 200,000 party-ready people flocked to the TomorrowWorld hills over the weekend for their chance to escape it all and immerse themselves in a raver’s kandi-land of wonder, smiles and raging.
Despite the weather setbacks and some hiccups in planning on someone’s part, (I’m not here to point fingers, I’m here to tell you how it all went down) anyone who was truly there would tell you it was still the best time of their life. To simply put in words the majesty that is TomorrowWorld, is impossible. Thankfully, we have the phenomenal photography skills of Michael Hobby to help share the exhilarating experience.
When you finally break through into the World of Tomorrow you find yourself in a utopia of bass, fun and freedom. Smiling faces and vivid costumes stream past you as you hear music blaring from all angles. With eight stages total (not including Dreamville’s) there is a place for even the most genre-specific EDM lover, let’s break down our favorites of the festival:
[Mythical Frames Stage]
The Mythical Frames Stage has always been a crowd favorite. With ornately designed frames lining the stage, alternating projections are shown through them making for a creepily satisfying and trippy visual experience. Bassnectar, who played on Saturday, naturally, did not disappoint fans blaring their bass-es off at this stage. Seven Lions also took his fans on a soulful journey with images of heaven, Morodor and models entrancing the crowd at his powerful, deep and goosebump inducing set.
[It’s a Trap! Stage]
The It’s A Trap! Stage was designed like Alice in Wonderland’s woodland library fairy tale that smacked you in the face with the dirtiest trap you’ve ever heard. DJ Diesel AKA Shaquille O’Neal (yeah, that’s right, Kazaam was at TW) surprised festival goers not only by his PERFORMING there but also by the fact that he was actually, not that damn bad of a DJ. Wrapping his set up with a sloppy make-out sesh with his lovely wife (picture below). Shaq’s still killin it.
You stumbled upon the It’s a Trap! stage, tucked into a wooded area at the Hills, right after you cross the fire-and-light-fountain surrounded bridge connecting the grounds. I think everyone has a special connection to this bridge; you become mesmerized by the multicolored fountains spewing magic into the air as goldfish periodically shoot fireballs into the sky. If you’re not frozen staring at the production of it all, you’re headed up or down the metal bridge high-fiving and smiling at fellow festival goers connecting to each other in true PLUR fashion.
[Main Stage]
It would be a disservice to TomorrowWorld and everyone reading this article to not mention the Main Stage, a grandiose display of the true production value surrounding the whole event. With spinning cogs, dancers and acrobats, artwork, lights, lasers, cannons, fireworks… I could go on with the list of intricacies that went into the 180 ft. tall stage. But the best part had to be the beautiful robotic face. Mechanical glasses would drop down over her eyes, and parts of her face intermittently reveled complex clockwork details. But her most notable feature was her bright happy eyes, which periodically looked on among the wild sea of ravers with a calming affirmation that we all should love and party on forever.
The main stage was filled with the BEST DJs in the globe. Highlights were Angelo’s perfectly transitioned set, David Guetta’s tribute to John Lennon, Martin Garrix and Adventure Club. Click here for a hilarious 2 minute video interview with Adventure Club.
TW is a place for people to come together and celebrate their individuality through music. The stages and setting bring out that side of us that wants to escape to a different reality, and at TomorrowWorld we all come together. Whether you’re chilling on top of the hill in front of the main stage or simply waiting in line at the porta-potties, you’re hard pressed not to make a sincere and affable connection with someone. The atmosphere is a beautiful breeding ground for sweet love and good vibes. People are free to run up to a stranger and give them a hug simply because they have the same hat, are repping the same flag or they just love their costume or totem pole. Friendships are made here, unbreakable bonds forged through music and creativity. The vibe of TomorrowWorld is irreplaceable.
All and all, TomorrowWorld is an event that can’t be missed. With “TW Fam” members still posting and reminiscing about the weekend, it’s undeniable that the weekend truly changes people. Whether it’s your first fest, or you’re an OG rave kid, TomorrowWorld is the place for you to break free, have fun, be yourself and be accepted for it. We are already counting down the days until TomorrowWorld 2016!
TomorrowWorld is taking the festival scene to a new level. I am an old Dead Head, and not particularly a fan of EDM, but this article has me thinking I might be missing out on something. Thanks for sharing your story!
Great review of TW 2015. DJ Diesel was great – does the man know how to expand his brand or what – showing what it is like to really let go and deliver a show. Everyone should remember that it rained at Woodstock too! Can’t wait until 2016 to see how they top this year.
Thanks for sharing your story about this festival. We never got the real story of what happened except for the weather related events. You have given me food for thought for sure.
