We spent this past lovely winter Saturday, January 25th at the serene Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden to attend its 7th Annual International Chocolate Festival.  The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is a tropical oasis off of Old Cutler Road that hosts a beautiful collection of trees, plants and wildlife. The chocolate festival was suitable for all ages held over three days. The venue provided chocolate tastings, Whole Foods sponsored chocolate beer tastings, a chocolate themed spa, chocolate plants, food trucks, educational seminars, cooking classes for adults and children. Truly a delight for lovers of all things chocolate! In addition to the festival, patrons could visit the beautiful garden, the Victoria pool, butterfly garden, tropical fruit pavilion, conservatory and many other attractions. The butterfly garden was mesmerizing to walk through with gorgeous, friendly butterflies literally landing on your shoulders and fingers.
One of the highlights of the International Chocolate festival was The Short Chef who gave a comical and inspiring children’s cooking demonstration highlighting the child obesity issue plaguing our country. He was hysterical and enchanted both the adults and children who attended. He served up a healthy chocolate-marinated strawberry salad that was gobbled up by the attendees. The event was packed with smiling faces and kids running around the park on glorious chocolate sugar rushes. The setting was stunning, the free beers superb, the chocolate exquisite and the vibe of the event sweeter than decadent Swiss chocolate. We look forward to more chocolate dipping next year.
