Tacos Tu Madre, located in Los Feliz and Westwood, serves up perfect late night bites all day long. Don’t let the window and small seating area discourage you. This food is delicious. With a colorful storefront, the menu is simple with no frills, just good tacos, burritos, and bowls.
Tacos Tu Madre encourages you to try a wide variety of tacos, rather than just getting three of one kind. The people who eat there are passionate about their favorite flavors. While I was ordering, a woman next to me in line started giving me suggestions, stating Crispy Chicken was definitely her favorite and that I should also try the Ahi Tuna and Korean BBQ.
With thirteen tacos to choose from on the menu, I had an assortment of tacos that included Asada, Crispy Chicken, Chorizo & Egg, Ahi Tuna, Korean BBQ and Carnitas. One was better than the next.
I especially loved the Ahi Tuna taco made with avocado, spicy citrus yuzu ponzu sauce, chives, sesame seeds and seaweed flakes. It was a fresh taste of poke on a crunchy tortilla chip. I could have eaten ten of those.
I also loved the Korean BBQ made with bulgogi, kimchee, pickled red peppers, and shaved cabbage. All of Tacos Tu Madres’ tacos can be eaten in two to three bites, so they are the perfect size to taste lots.
Another favorite menu item is the Pastrami Breakfast Burrito. Made with pastrami, bacon, Oaxacan string cheese, guacamole and fried eggs, it is an Instagram sensation.
And speaking of Instagram sensations, you cannot visit Tacos Tu Madre without trying their Internet famous Red Velvet Churros with Cream Cheese Frosting. As far as food fads go, this one lives up to the hype. I downed those churros in two seconds. They are sugary but bite sized, so you don’t feel disgusting afterwards either.
I know I’ll be back to visit Tacos Tu Madre very soon. After all, Taco Tuesday comes once a week.
