Sarsaparilla Club – A Dim Sum Twist on Brunch
Photographs by Sasaparilla Club
Everyone is doing brunch these days, cuz Bitches love Brunch (new EDM song coming soon?) Who wouldn’t want to sit outside watching the water, beach, bikinis, speedos (maybe not speedos) and sipping on Miami Mimosas, Bellinis and pounding grub to soak up the gallons of alcohol we drank the night before. Sarsaparilla Club is the new restaurant in South Beach’s Shelbourne hotel from Rockstar Chef Jeff Mcinnis, who created Yardbirds and his radiantly beautiful boo Chef Janine Booth.
What makes the Sarsaparilla Club Sunday brunch so unique is that it runs all Sunday and their Dim Sum Service. “The Sarsaparilla Club is a restaurant of freedom & flexibility. Carts full of fresh, vibrant and irresistibly aromatic samplings of dishes such as Beet & Short Rib Dumplings, House-Made Steamed Buns with Pork Belly Bacon and Local Root Tartare.”
We ate outside, of course and started with an aptly titled South Beach libation called No Money No Honey – it was a bit sour and a bit sweet and the muddled fruit really sets it off.
The first Dim sum dish that made us mmmm was the Heirloom Tomatoes with homemade ricotta, tomato sorbet, crispy olive oil toast & basil. The tomato sorbet was unique and refreshing and the whole dish worked well and was on the healthy side for a usually fatass brunch experience.
The Pork Belly Bacon Steamed Buns was an incredible bite. A soft and scrumptious House made bun enveloped a savory belly enhanced with a fish sauce caramel & cilantro peanut slaw that made this bun a special lil treat.
The Sticky Pork Belly Bacon was the best bite of the day. House made thick cut bacon glazed in fish sauce caramel, crispy puffed rice, sesame & scallions. Was fighting with my dining partner for the last couple pieces
For dessert we went with the intoxicating Ooey Gooey Cinnamon Roll that is cast iron baked & smothered in citrus icing that you would lick off your worst enemy if applied. Ask them to heat up the bun and prepare yourself for some of the best icing you will ever experience.
Unfortunately we did not have room for the Pig & Khao Fried Rice or the Persian Hot Cake, but there is always next time.
