Queens Comfort – Where Regulars Become Family
Nestled in the heart of Astoria, Queens on 30th avenue between Steinway Street and 41st Street, Queens Comfort brings a unique combination of southern and traditional American cuisine to form a menu to satisfy any palate. Queens Comfort isn’t for your typical calorie counter but for anyone who’s seeking a hearty meal that’ll leave you not only full but also feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
From the moment you walk into Queens Comfort you’re in for an unrivaled experience by any other restaurant. The décor of Queens Comfort can only be described as organized confusion with the homiest of homey vibes.
Random 80’s action figures create a distinct décor only fond in Queens Comfort
Queens Comfort teleports you back to the 80’s with action figures hanging from the lights and covering every inch of shelf space along the walls. Queens Comfort also has a projector that plays videos silently so as not to interrupt your conversations. You can find them playing anything from Looney Tunes, foreign films and American classics like Scarface or The Goonies.
As I was seated I noticed their menu was just as unconventional as the decorations. The Capt’n Crunch Chicken Fingers immediately stood out of all of their appetizers. If your first thought was the cereal you would have guessed correctly. The chicken fingers are deep fried and sprinkled with crushed Capt’n Crunch cereal and served with a red chili bacon caramel sauce. The chicken fingers are delicious all on their own but the sauce put it over the edge with a sweet caramel finish with a hint of bacon.
In an effort to keep trying something fresh and distinct I decided to try the Atomic Fire Balls, which consisted of deep fried mac and cheese dressed in sriracha with a side of ranch dipping sauce. The Atomic Fire Balls were crispy and crunchy on the outside but gooey and cheesy on the inside. The sriracha added a bit of a kick but the ranch sauce was the perfect sauce to counteract and add that creamy texture to compliment the Atomic Fire Ball.
For the main entrée I decided to go with the Peanut Butter & Jelly Burger with tater tots. You have the option of choosing between fries and tater tots as a side to your entrée. The PB&J Burger consists of a 1/3-pound patty, Skippy peanut butter, grape jelly, and smoked bacon. While skeptical of PB&J on a burger that feeling completely went away after the very first bite. The peanut butter melts all over your burger and the bacon balances out the taste of PB&J to form of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten.
I wasn’t very hungry after finishing my burger. Actually, I wasn’t hungry at all but something told me to look at the dessert menu. The Peanut Butter Oreo Tart was just screaming out to me. Chocolaty, peanut butter with a crust of Oreo is the perfect post meal snack.
After it was all said and done I was ready to ball up under the covers and just relax from the food coma. Now I know how they got their name. Queens Comfort is truly special place and one not to be replicated. The only downside is Queens Comfort is cash only but with so many delicious options on the menu you won’t see anyone complaining. The best time to drop is during the daytime as they tend to get full during dinnertime and as for brunch, well I never made it brunch because the wait time is about an hour. I forgot to mention the best part, Queens Comfort is BYOB so feel free to stop at your local convenience or liquor store and pick up your adult beverage of choice.
