Plant Food and Wine Blue Danube Summer Wine Soirée Review
By Samantha Dockser
This past weekend on what was truly a perfect June night, Plant Food and Wine Venice hosted a summer wine soirée. The event, which was held on their airy and beautiful back patio, featured Blue Danube wines, delectable small bites, and insightful wine inspired conversation. And the best part, it was all vegan!
Blue Danube’s wine night offered four Coratian wines, two white and two red. All were delicious, but the first white was a favorite as it was infused with peach.
As Plant Food + Wine prides itself on an innovative approach to plant-based cuisine through an evolving menu guided by locally-sourced ingredients, all the wines were vegan. Now you might be thinking, “what? Wine is made from grapes, it is all vegan!” Well, during the discussion last night, I learned not all wine is vegan. Some use egg whites or even bull’s blood to clarify. But not at Plant Food and Wine, because everything is all natural.
And the small bites that accompanied the wine did not disappoint. My favorite was the quinoa cracker with vegan ricotta cheese. I swear, if I had’t known it wasn’t real cheese, I never would have guessed.
Plant Food and Wine was designed as a communal gathering space, offering a unique experience that values pleasing your taste buds as much as it does creating health-conscious foods. With their indoor-outdoor space, breathtaking courtyard, and intimate back wine room, Plant Food + Wine is the perfect place to spend a summer day or night. Open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, Chef Scott Winegard prepares a seasonal menu of vegetables, seeds, grains, legumes and house-made cheeses, enhanced by the restaurant’s onsite edible garden. If you missed this weekend’s wine night, fear not. It was part of Plant Food + Wine Venice’s ongoing wine tasting program offered monthly. Be sure to check it out. Between the beautiful scenery and the amazing bites, it was enough to convince me to go vegan. The night ended with a glass of vegan Blue Danube dessert wine and a vegan cake, and I was sold.
So cheers to good drink, eating healthy, and living well! Hope to see you at next month’s wine night.
