Pints and Quarts Review – 1950’s Style Grub
What happens when there is a closed down vintage gas station in the middle of a upbeat street in Dallas? Make it into a quirky 50’s restaurant, of course! Located in the corner of Greenville and Ross Avenues in Dallas Texas resides the newly reinvented ‘Pints and Quarts’ burger, hot dog, and beer diner. As soon as you walk in, you feel your soul leave 2015 and time travel back into 1950’s. The comfortably small and retro atmosphere definitely sets the mood with large open windows, orange bar stools, friendly service, funky music, and a old-style, casual food selection that we all know and love.
Ranging from a great variety of burgers, hot dogs, drinks, and desserts, it seems like you can never make a wrong decision. After studying the menu and scanning all of its deliciousness, me and my foodie ‘partner in crime’ finally picked our weapons of choice. For him, his heart and soul was sold on the ‘Funky Town’ burger. Packed with apple-wood smoked bacon, melted American cheese, grilled onion strings, and dripping with BBQ sauce, this hamburger was created just for him and any other meat lover.
But what about non-carnivores like myself? They offer a beautiful Portabella cap as a substitution, but sadly they were out by the time we arrived. (Just comes to show how delicious that mushroom patty must be, right!?) The staff was kind enough to still tend for my vegetarian needs and offered me the ‘Bahn Mi Dog’ without the dog. This Vietnamese dish created in a American way is what caught my eye. Take a house potato hot dog bun, stuff it with sliced cucumbers, pickled daikon, carrots, and spears, cilantro, some spicy serrano, and drizzled in bahn mi sauce and you got yourself a very fresh yet hearty veggie frank.
Both meals were served with a side of ‘Dipsticks’; their version of thick, hand cut french fries bedded in some fresh chives and accompanied with your choice of dip. Ranch was definitely the way to go.
Behind the register showcased the beautiful collections of adult beverages for anyone seeking out to add a little bit more ‘funk’ into their experience, but we decided to go old school and quench our thirst with some cream orange soda.
Every bite, crunch, and sip was absolutely refreshing as we sat in front of the open bar-style window and immersed ourselves back in time where the atmosphere is great a place to ‘kick’ it and the food is ‘outta sight’. This place is officially ‘bonafied’ in my book!
Wow, the food looks good.
