Get ready to take your taste buds on a trip to Mexico with Pilo‘s Street Tacos spicy yet savory menu now open in South Beach! This is the second location for Entrepreneur and financial advisor, Derek Gonzalez who opened Pilo’s Street Tacos in the heart of Brickell. “Pilo‘s was born out of a longing for authentic Mexican street food, I craved the tacos you could only find on the streets of Mexico. I am a first generation Mexican-American that travels to DF (Mexico City, Distrito Federal) frequently. My first stop off the plane is always to eat tacos with my family. Now, at Pilo‘s, we can all have those same street tacos without the plane ride.” –Derek. Their tacos al pastor will rival any south of the border, with thinly sliced pork, roasted in a traditional Mexican slow turning trompo and garnished with pineapple. You have to try their Catrina signature dishes doused with their own homemade salsas, like the La Dulce salsa featuring farm to table fresh raw green tomatillos, honey, and avocado. This evening I sampled their amazing Flauta 305 made with hibiscus, and their flavorful veggie burrito which contained cactus and yucca. The cocktails featured fresh ingredients and were strong!

Pilo’s tacos also has a special place in our hearts not just for the food but also the cause. The name came from Derek’s aunt Pilo who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. As such, Pilo’s works with donating their profits to the foundation Best Buddies and also encourages employment of individuals with cognitive disabilities.
