Summer Beach Bod Rocking into Fall at Pilates ProWorks Miami
If you aren’t familiar with Pilates ProWorks Miami, it is located at the intersection of Merrick at Aragon in Coral Gables, and offers fitness buffs and novices alike a contemporary and convenient workout spot in the heart of the Miracle Mile neighborhood. The 2,850-square-foot studio provides an ideal space for those seeking a sleek, stylish and upscale fitness environment.
Now I am no fitness aficionado so I was a bit nervous about taking on a Pilates class, this would be my very first one. Many of whom, at many levels of fitness, have begun doing Pilates exercises say they’ve seen improvements in range of motion, flexibility, circulation, posture, and abdominal strength. I was ready to see what it was all about!
Shoes off, socks on, I met with Pilates ProWorks Miami owner Summer Christensen who gave me a tour of the facility and introduced me to my instructor for the evening, Katia.
Pilates ProWorks Miami offers two types of dynamic classes, Pilates Pro and matBox. Pilates Pro is a high-energy, music-fueled total body workout that places students in a small group, with everyone working, sweating on their own FitFormer™ Pilates machine and was the class I was scheduled for that evening.
matBox is a full-body workout that brings together Kickboxing, Pilates and Yoga into one powerful 55-minute session. The class starts with a round of high-intensity kickboxing with a punching bag. Then, the gloves come off and you hit the mat for a round of Pilates to strengthen your core. The final round incorporates Yoga to leave you aligned, balanced and fully invigorated.
My first Pilates ProWorks class was a success and I finished feeling as if I had gotten a total body workout. It wasn’t easy and I went at my pace, but that was ok. There were modifications to certain exercises for beginners and for those with injuries. Pilates truly is an exercise that challenges your strength and your core. For those looking to maintain their hard earned sizzling Summer look into the Fall these classes definitely focus on core strengthening, resistance lengthening, and high-intensity cardio intervals ideal for blasting calories and breaking a sweat.
