Peace, Love and Little Donuts – Worth a Visit to Naples, Florida
By Samantha Dockser
Peace, Love, and Little Donuts serves up fresh and delicious donuts for the kid in all of us. Owned and run by Kara Barefoot, this adorable donut shop has been spreading the love in Naples, FL for almost two years. With 40 different flavors featured on a rotating basis, these donuts are whimsical treats. The shop itself is youthful and fun, and will just make you feel happy to sit and enjoy a box with coffee.
Kara used to be a customer of Peace, Love, and Little Donuts. But when the old storefront was going to be torn down, she quit her job for a software company and decided to buy to donut shop. With Kara at the helm, Peace, Love, and Little Donuts is thriving. Kara herself is full of energy and passion, a complete joy to talk to. She and her team of 10 employees get up daily at 3am to make their fresh fried dough creations. And oh it is worth it, because they are so tasty.
Before Kara provided me with a sampling, my eyes were already eating. The donuts are adorable, with incredibly playful flavors and toppings, like S’more, Samoa, Apple Pie, Cookies and Cream, M&M’s, and Lucky Charms, just to name a few.
I was lucky enough to taste some incredible desserts. And the best thing about Peace, Love, and Little Donuts? Well, as the name might lead you to believe, these fried dough confections are little! They are the right size to taste a few with out feeling like a total glutton. Other donuts are overwhelming in size, but these left my grandmother (who joined me in this flavor endeavor) and I elated! After tasting the Glazed Donut, my grandmother exclaimed, “ugh I am so sick of cupcakes. This is the best.” Step aside cupcakes, there’s a new dessert sheriff in town.
The Key Lime Donut, Kara’s personal favorite, was amazing and so very Naples. It is made with a creme filling and lime frosting, and it is topped with crushed graham cracker.
Another favorite of mine was the Chocolate Pretzel topped with Sea Salt. I am a sucker for anything pretzel, so this donut was calling my name from the start.
Do you know what pairs exquisitely with Donuts? Some marvelous coffee from the Dominican Republic delivered to your door from Amazon:
The Jelly Donut was also divine. Topped and filled with jelly that tastes like its fresh from the farmers market, this ring-shaped cake is leaps ahead of those processed jelly donuts from more mainstream providers. And the Cannoli Donut was as beautiful as it was tasty, filled with cream and rolled in Valentine’s Day sprinkles.
The Coffee Cake and Cinnamon Sugar donuts are more traditional cakey treats for the less adventurous donut connoisseur yet still just as rewarding a tasting experience.
Another favorite would have to be Peace, Love, and Little Donuts’ Maple Bacon donuts. It is the perfect breakfast donut, in my opinion because it tastes like a stack of pancakes doused in maple syrup with a side of savory bacon. Only its even better because it’s so little!
I could not recommend these donuts more. And the love and passion that Kara has for her product just emanates throughout the whole shop. Stop what you are doing and drive to Naples ASAP. Peace, Love, and Little Donuts, I love you!
