NYY Steak Aims to Please and Succeeds with Caymus Wine Pairing Dinner

Amid gaudy lights, designer high heels, suits that cost two month of rent as well as the pings and coin plinks of slot machines lies NYY Steak.

Located in the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, the  restaurant looks almost like an upscale man cave funded by trust fund parents, thanks to the open display of raw meat  and overabundance of New York Yankee logos. Albeit the decor, NYY Steak provides culinary creations  of high caliber as well as memorable, elegant dining events. The Caymus Vineyards Wine Pairing Dinner was no exception.

We started off with the Scallop Crudo – Finger Lime, Grilled Apricot paired with Emmolo® Sauvignon Blanc, Napa, Calif., 2015. Although this specific varietal isn’t on my preferred list of wines, it did compliment the dish nicely. The scallops were presented beautifully and adorned with flowers: the taste was of high par as well.

Following was the Pan-Roasted Halibut – Fiddlehead Ferns, Stinging Nettles, Uni Foam, Grilled Baby Leek, Meyer Lemon Beurre Blanc paired with Mer Soleil® Unoaked Chardonnay, Monterey, Calif., 2014. Buttery and soft, it was easily one of my favorite dishes. Well, until the next dish, that is.

The Rabbit Agnolotti – Sweet Peas, Vidalia Onion Soubise paired with Mer Soleil® Chardonnay, Santa Barbara, Calif., 2014. This was very smoky, though not quite gamey as one would expect. Enclosed in a pasta pillow, the dish was complimented by a red sauce. Personally, I believe a red wine pairing would have been a better choice, but then again, red wine is my preference over white or rosé.

Next on the lineup was the USDA Prime Hanger Steak – Hickory Grilled, Confit Potato, Maitake Mushroom paired with Caymus Vineyards® Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa, Calif., 2014.

Juicy but not overwhelmingly rare, the meat was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside – a perfect combination destined to sway even the most tentative of carnivores. As for the cab, it was like a box of chocolates and hands down, the best wine of the night. The joke of a potato was more like French fry, which I was not too big a fan of.

NYY Steakhouse Chocolate

The dessert course (and, natch, the last course) was Chocolate – Orange Spiced Chocolate Cake, Smoked Guanaja Chocolate Mousse Sphere; Sous Vide Figs, Orange Ash, Raspberry Sorbet paired with Red Schooner® “Voyage 4” Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina, NV. The final dish mastered the ending to a decadent, multi-course meal: it was rich, yet a small enough portion to not get stuffed. The raspberry sorbet added a nice, tart taste while the dates accompanied the other flavors without overpowering them.

As if the extravagant experience wasn’t enough, we were all presented with a bottle of wine upon leaving. It was Conundrum Red Blend 2014, and far better than any goodie bag I’ve ever received as a child.

For impeccable presentation, excellent service and scrumptious food, I highly recommend NYY Steak. Just don’t get too offended if you’re a Red Sox fan.
