Delicious and Delightful – La Mar by Gaston Acurio

La Mar by Gaston Acurio located inside of the Mandarin Oriental Miami in Brickell Key is home to some of the best Peruvian food in the country. Upon my arrival I could immediately feel the elegant and soothing ambiance of the restaurant. Looking around I could see the Miami skyline and Biscayne Bay, what a view. Let the dining experience begin!

Cocktails and Starters

To begin, my colleague and I started our night with a round of drinks. I ordered a Kiwi Kwencher, which was a kiwi infused pisco quebranta made with freshly squeezed pineapple, lime juice and an organic egg white. My colleague ordered a Machu Picchu Mule made with, lime, ginger beer and aromatic bitters. Our waiter started us off with some yucca chips and yellow tartar sauce as we awaited our first round of food.

I started off with the Causa Salad, and WOW!  As soon as I took my first bite I instantly started to taste all of these amazing flavors blending together and I couldn’t get enough. The Causa Salad has aji amarillo pepper causa, beets pate, sunchokes tartare, rainbow carrots, and smoked heirloom tomatoes. My colleague ordered the Ceviche Lujoso, which has lobster, crab, trout eggs, chalaca, radish, olive oil, and avocado leche de tigre. The Ceviche Lujoso was scrumptious and I highly recommend any of their ceviche dishes for ceviche lovers, it is one of their specialties!

Additionally, the second round of food comes out and it was a sizzling El A Chupado. This dish normally contains bucatini pasta, shrimp, octopus, calamari, bell peppers, choclo, and rocoto aioli, but for this occasion we substituted vegetables, broccolini, asparagus, mushrooms, choclo, and potatoes. The vegetables were cooked with several different spices and flavors to create this masterpiece skillet.

Main Course

The main course arrived and it was the chef’s recommendation. The Salmon Fusion has salmon, bok choy, kale, broccolini, coconut milk, Peruvian pepper curry, and white chaufa rice. The sauce in this dish was absolutely orgasmic. Hands down the best dish of the night!

Dessert

Finally, dessert time! We ordered Mascarpone, Maiz Morado y Frutos Rojos. This dish contained chicha morada, mascarpone parfait, red berries coulis, and five spices crispy meringue. The dessert had an interesting presentation with an even more interesting and phenomenal taste.
