Jack’s Miami – Grandma’s Italian Served 305 Stylee
Jack’s Miami Home Cooking is a quaint restaurant situated inside a humble old house in Wynwood, Miami. The house has been around for years and was recently renovated. Dining here gives the ambiance an at home comfortable feel, as if you are somewhere in Italy at a family member’s intimate gathering, and they happen to all be named Jack. The walls of the house are adorned with photos of famous Jack’s from around the world, with the most pointed attribute to Jack Nicholson, whom well known Miami former nightclub owner JP Parlavechio knows personally and has cooked for. JP, alongside hospitality mogul Alan Roth, came together and when casting about for the name of a new restaurant, the idea of Jack’s was created.
Having previously owned Zio Luigi in South beach, JP can be found in the kitchen using recipes he learned from his mother and grandmother. There are many classic Italian comfort foods on the Jack’s Miami menu, and now we shall delve into the savory delights we sampled.
To begin with, we tasted the Fire Roasted Red Peppers. This dish was colorful and amazing, with red and yellow peppers marinated in garlic, topped with burrata mozzarella and bathed in black truffle oil. The peppers were tender and savory, melting together phenomenally with the burrata and truffle oil. We highly recommend giving this starter a try!
You can’t visit an Italian place without eating a Caprese salad! Similar in appearance to the fire roasted peppers but unique in its own taste, the caprese salad here was so delightful. With red and yellow vine ripe tomatoes and basil over mixed greens with mozzarella di bufala drizzles with an aged balsamic vinaigrette, it certainly did not disappoint.
For the main entrée we skipped right to the heart of Italian cuisine and hands down choose the homemade lasagna as the best dish on the menu! It is the daily special for Wednesday’s and don’t tell our grandmothers this, but we seriously could not get enough of this. The beef was seasoned perfectly amongst the layers of pasta, tomato sauce, ricotta and mozzarella cheeses, and sprinkled with basil. You must certainly make it a point to stop in on this day and try this out!
Ending the night with on the traditional Italian note, the dessert selected was a cannoli. I’m sure we have all tried cannolis in various places, but this one was incredible! Flaky yet still crunchy dusted with powdered sugar, with the sweet chocolate chip filling oozing out with creaminess, we were left licking our fingertips! Can’t leave without ending the evening on sugary note.
When you’re craving comfort Italian food, be sure to think of Jack’s Miami and head over for a lovely experience!
