How to Look Your Brilliant Best When Traveling

Going on a traveling adventure is a guaranteed good time, and you’ll have an even better experience if you know that you’re looking your best. Alas, the nature of being on the road doesn’t always lend itself to having a picture-perfect look, which is a shame since there are oh-so-many photo opportunities when you’re in exotic, far-flung destinations.

Late nights, humid weather, and wrinkled clothing can all impact the quality of your look. Happily, with a little know-how, you can ensure that you’re always looking your brilliant best no matter how long you are traveling.

Choose an Appropriate Flight Time

We all know that we look better when we’ve had a good night’s sleep. Alas, if you’ve booked yourself onto a flight that leaves at 6 am then that probably won’t be possible, since you’ll need to wake up comically early just to make it to the airport on time.

If you have the option, look at selecting a flight time that allows you to wake up refreshed. Not only will this prevent you from arriving at your destination with bags under your eyes, but it’ll also get your trip started on the right foot — no one’s in their best mood when they’re running off zero sleep!

Invest In Trip Clothing

Going on a traveling adventure is a great opportunity to hit the stores and buy some cute new outfits. You’ll feel confident strutting your stuff when you know you’re wearing grade-A threads.

It’s recommended to do some research regarding the climate of your chosen destination before you travel — it’ll ensure you buy clothing that is weather-appropriate. Remember: even sunny, hot destinations can become chilly once the sun goes down.

Another option is to buy clothing when you arrive. This is especially recommended if it’s a fashionable destination. Not only will you have clothing that you can wear during your trip, but you’ll have items that you can wear when you’re back home, too.

Pack an Iron

The clothing you’ve packed won’t look its best if it’s full of wrinkles! There are some useful strategies that’ll help to reduce wrinkles, but there are no packing methods that’ll eliminate them completely.

The solution? The trusty iron. It’s worthwhile packing a travel iron in your luggage; they take up a little bit of space and weight, but it’s worth it since it’ll allow you to have wrinkle-free clothing that gives you a great look. Plus, while some hotels you stay in will have an iron, it’s not guaranteed — though it’s best to ask at reception if you don’t see one in your room, since some hotels will have one that you can borrow.

To Sleep On the Plane Or Not Sleep On The Plane

There are two trains of thought about sleeping on planes. One says that you shouldn’t, since there’s a chance that you’ll mess up your hair and wake up looking even more tired than when you started. The other says that it’s worth it since rest really is one of the best things you can do for your appearance.

We say: if it’s a short flight, then stay awake. If it’s a long flight (more than 4-5 hours), then try to get some shuteye. An eye mask, earplugs, and a pillow will do the trick. You’ll find it easier to sleep throughout the duration of your flight if you have some additional legroom, too, so consider paying extra to get one of the better seats. After all, you really can’t put a price on being well-rested!

Think Of Your Hair

You might have a firm grip on your hair when you’re at home, but it can be a different experience when you’re traveling. After all, you won’t have your favorite stylist just a phone call away. Plus, your hair may respond differently to the climate of wherever it is you’re visiting, especially if it’s a warm destination. Humidity can cause havoc for hair, especially hair that’s prone to frizz. Rather than having to deal with bad hair days when you arrive, take a look at putting together a frizzy hair routine before you travel. That way, you’ll know exactly what to do to control your hair if the humidity level is high.

Stay Safe in the Sun

Spending time in the sun is one of the joys of going on a traveling adventure. However, it’s important to keep your skin safe when you’re in the sunshine. Nothing will have you regretting a day at the beach more than bright red, burned skin. Not only does this type of sun damage have an immediate effect on your appearance, but it can also have long-term implications; along with smoking, sun damage is one of the leading causes of wrinkles. If you want to look as good in the future as you do today, then be sure to slap on that sun lotion.

Take Your Favorite Products With You

You’ll know how to make yourself look your best when you’re at home when you have access to all of your favorite skincare and beauty products. But what about when you’re traveling? With limited space in the luggage, many people elect to simply take a couple of items and then buy other items when they land.

But we’d say it’s worth taking all of your key products with you. Invest in some travel-sized bottles, and simply transfer however much you’ll need for your trip to the bottle. It’s possible that you’ll discover a great new product when you’re traveling, but it’s best to bring them home with you to try — no one wants to realize that the new skincare product they’re trying is causing them outbreaks.

Consider Exercising

The idea of exercising when traveling is, to some people, a ridiculous concept. Most people use traveling as a way to take a break from the gym! However, we’d say that, on balance, it’s worthwhile making an extra effort to start the day in the gym. It’ll improve your skin, make your eyes brighter, and will also simply put you in a positive, energetic mood, which always makes anyone look better! Don’t believe you’ll have the motivation to get a day pass at a gym in the neighborhood in which you’re staying? Make things easier for yourself by booking hotels that have a gym.

Get Plenty of Rest

Most people want to see and do everything when they’re traveling, but remember that it’s also important to rest. As we said above, investing in rest is one of the best things you can do not only for your appearance, but also your mood. You’ll feel much better if you have a nap after you’ve been exploring all day.

Take Photos During Golden Hour

Finally, remember that it’s not just about looking good when you’re on your travels, but also looking good for all time. You’ll take plenty of photos of yourself while you’re globetrotting, and you’ll hope to have the option of giving them pride of place on your mantlepiece of social media accounts. You can increase the chances of having great photos that you use time and time again by taking your photos during the golden hour, when the light is at its softest.

Conclusion

And there we have it! Looking great isn’t the most important part of traveling, but it can help to make your trip extra special. By taking the tips above, you can have confidence that you’ll look great — and have photos that last a lifetime — whenever anyone gets their camera out for a few snaps.
