Herringbone Santa Monica—Patio Seating, Delicious Eating
If you are looking for an trendy casual seafood experience on the West Side, look no further than Herringbone Santa Monica. Located just steps from the ocean, Herringbone Santa Monica brags the freshest seafood on the market. With a kitchen lead by Chef Brian Malarkey, Top Chef finalist and the winning mentor on ABC’s The Taste, the menu features “Fish Meats Field” coastal cuisine with an emphasis on line-caught seafood and high-quality meats. The restaurants vibe creates a sense of of nautical whimsy, with live trees, lush greenery, fish net draping and maritime inspired artwork and fixtures.
There has also never been a better time to try lunch at Herringbone Santa Monica. With complimentary valet (a major plus in Santa Monica) for all lunch goers, Herringbone’s menu is offering a new Lunch Box, which includes a choice of greens & choice of sandwich for only $19. They’ve also created a lunch time happy hour, which includes Albacore Sashimi, Grilled Pork Bely, and Truffle Fries – all under $11. But if you are looking to indulge, I’ve got you covered with some of my favorite Herringbone eats.
I would highly recommend starting with Herringbone’s fresh Albacore Poke served with ginger, soy, spicy mayo, nori, and avocado. I could eat this poke everyday. It is so light and flavorful.
For an appetizer off the lunch happy hour menu, check out the Chicken Wangs, served with a truffle soy ginger glaze or buffalo style. The spice level is perfect—there’s a bit of kick, but nothing so overwhelming as to kill your taste buds for the rest of the meal. And the chicken is cooked to perfection, almost falling off the bone.
I also love the Grilled BBQ Shrimp. It is listed on their menu as a “shared plate,” so it can work really well as either an appetizer or a individual main course. Served with carrot slaw, Chinese sausage, and Fresno chili all over a bed of crispy rice, this dish succeeds at creating a playful new take on a classic seafood dish.
And if you are looking for a seafood classic, look no further than Herringbone’s Fish and Chips. It’s a local bass, served with lemon, tartar sauce, and fries. It’s the best beachside fare around.
Be sure to also save room for dessert. Herringbone Santa Monica offers some decadent treats. Hands down one of the best desserts I’ve ever had is The Herringbone Sundae. Chocolate ice cream comes piled high with candied cocoa nibs, sea salted blondies, toasted marshmallow cream, and caramel sauce. It is easily enough dessert for a few stuffed diners to share, but so worth the extra indulgence.
I also still need to try the Orange Cardamom Glazed Beignets. I was too full to order them on my last visit. But they come with vanilla mascarpone, candied pistachios, and pistachio ice cream. I’m drooling just thinking about these guys.
Basically, Herringbone is my new go-to spot for out of town guests looking for some incredible California cuisine. I couldn’t be more excited to try more menu items at Herringbone Santa Monica, and I hope you make a reservation soon to do the same.
