Flume Concert Review
By Briana Evans
Get ready to be introduced to some new stellar music. When you hear the term “World Tour”, you think of loud music, lots of lights, and a whole lot of people. With sold out show after sold out show, The Flume Concert delivered just that to multiple cities and countries all over the world! After the release of sophomore album “Skin”, this tour was much needed, and MUCH anticipated. A lot of people have heard of Flume from his world famous hit below:
Before we get into how Flume ripped it up we need to give a well deserved recognition to fellow Australians opener Hermitude, who absolutely stole the show! Hermitude is an electronic – hip hop – EDM, duo from New South Wales. You may have heard a handful of their ridiculously addictive tracks:
or this one:
Hermitude got the entire crowd rowdy and amped up before Flume went on and some people thought was more impressive than Flume’s set.
With tickets in hand and floral attire on to match the album, a few friends and myself ventured into the whimsical world that was a sold out FLUME Concert World Tour stop. From the minute we passed through security (very cool people by the way), the vibes were there. Lace and Floral seemed to envelop most of the radiant females I passed, while most of our lovely male friends donned tye dye shirts and pin covered hats…even spotting a few Electric Forest t-shirts in the crowd (shout out forest fam)!
Meeting new friends was a simple task, everyone seemed genuinely happy… you could see smiles as far as you looked. We were on the floor, but decided to stay towards the back for a better view of the artists. We ended up with an absolutely perfect view of everything, but still had the critical room necessary for dancing and being wild!
The lights went dark again, and you could feel the energy pulsing through the air. Screaming and clapping began as the 24 year old came out and greeted all of us, asking how everyone was feeling and letting us know how excited he was to be there. Immediately his stage set up lit up, and boy was it beautiful! Made up of what looked like three dimensional cubes, LED around the edges of each one, it was a sight to see! The music began, with high energy from the very start. Hit after hit, he played almost every song of his new album “Skin”, but also brought us back to 2012 by playing a good majority of his first self titled album “Flume”.
The visuals went hand in hand with each and every song, bright and bold and a perfect fit for this show. Flashes of light purples, pinks and blues filled the venue. Flume seems to make reality feel like a dream everywhere he goes, and this tour was no exception! Calm yet so exciting is a Flume concert, bringing a beautiful vibe and energy almost hard to explain. After finishing what we thought was a last song, the lights came on again and people started to head out. But this sea of Flume lovers was not going to let him go that easy! Never in my life have I heard such a loud and persistent bunch, chanting and insisting he do just one more song. What felt like forever, but in reality was only a minute or so went by, and lo and behold, the man himself came back out to grace us with one more tune! We all danced and sang and jammed one last time, before the lights came on for good. We stayed and chatted with some people that were partying next to us, then flooded out of the venue with everyone else.
If you’ve never experienced a Flume concert and you get a chance to, take it. The show will leave you feeling bubbly, and the fans are an absolute pleasure. The Flume Concert World Tour exceeded my expectations, and I cannot wait to experience him again!
