The Harvest Bar Playa – LA’s Westside Welcomes the Superfood Cafe
Being surrounded by high quality snacks, meals and desserts all the time can be considered a health hazard. This is a food bloggers dilemma. Rarely does one find a restaurant concept whose main focus is the health benefits but at the same time can qualify as “food porn”. I can testify that The Harvest Bar Playa has achieved this seemingly impossible goal.
The Harvest Bar Playa is a revelation, a superfood cafe that offers items made with all natural ingredients with vegan and gluten free options as well. Their mission is to “To be good for you, good to you and just plain good”.
With the success coming from the original Harvest Bar in Sherman Oaks, founder Aric Haut and Dustin White have expanded their concept to the westside of Los Angeles with their newly opened location.
“At Harvest Bar Playa, we focus on wholesome, purposeful, nutrition packed, antioxidant rich and delicious bowls of sweet and savory superfoods, fresh smoothies, breakfast bowls and hand crafted coffee and tea.”
There is nothing like The Harvest Bar’s Homemade Cold Brew. The lengthy process results in a smooth and less acidic coffee experience.
I enjoyed the Cold Brew Almond Milk Latte and would highly recommend it to all coffee enthusiasts.
I started with The Cuban Bowl, a savory bowl filled with organic quinoa, black beans, brown rice, homemade jackfruit carnitas, locally grown wild baby arugula, cilantro, mango salsa, red onion all garnished with a lime wedge and drizzled with tangy avocado cilantro cream.
The jackfruit carnitas pack a flavorful bite with plenty of spice to spare. It’s most fun when discovering ingredients like jackfruit and seeing its versatility in action.
I chose the Hot Pink smoothie to help wash down the amazing Cuban Bowl. The Hot Pink smoothie contains strawberry, banana, agave and apple juice. But the item that brings out the “Hot Pink” is the superfood, Dragon Fruit.
The Hot Pink smoothie is a sweet, tart, and refreshing affair. What looks to be sugar packed to the max is in fact the opposite, a healthy revitalizing beverage that appeals on all levels.
After having a difficult time deciding which of the Harvest Bar’s Signature Bowls to order, I went with my gut and requested the PB and Banana with Raspberries and Bee Pollen added.
The PB and Banana Bowl is filled with Harvest Bar’s Protein Acai blend made with organic acai, peanut butter, banana, hemp protein, dates and hemp milk.
In addition, the PB and Banana Bowl is generously topped with granola, cacao nibs, banana and your choice of fruit. The result is a bowl that can be eaten at any meal and your brain would believe that you were having dessert. You owe it to yourself to try this bowl.
Fellow Foodie, Misoo_Hungry ordered the Island Bowl. This is made with the Tropical Blend, consisting of organic acai, pineapple, banana, coconut milk, mango, orange juice and coconut shreds.
The Island Bowl is topped with granola, mango, kiwi, coconut and goji.
All the bases of the signature bowls are kept cool and mixed periodically by specialized gelato mixers. Six different blends featuring either acai or dragon fruit are ready to go at anytime.
With a great concept and newly opened location, The Harvest Bar Playa is not only the perfect stop for breakfast lunch or dinner, but it’s supremely healthy and features the worlds most popular superfoods that will truly benefit your physical and mental health and happiness.
