What is better than happy hour? Happier hour at Dragonfly Izakaya!
Sometimes it’s hard to find good food and drink specials for happy hour at restaurants. You usually get a good deal on either one or the other, but Dragonfly Izakaya has changed the rules! Let’s get down to it.
Do yourself a favor and start with a cocktail. I tried the Sumo Smash – Martin Miller’s Gin, Ginger Simple, Lime Juice and Mint. Super refreshing and easy to drink. The best part? It was $7. That is hard to come by in Miami! Dragonfly Izakaya also has $6 By the glass wines & Local Drafts, along with $5 wells. The menu also includes small bites ranging from $4-$8. We decided to try the Steamed Buns – Braised Briskit, Pickled Cucumber & Onion, Gochujang, Sesame Seeds. If there are steamed buns on the menu I’m ordering them. These babies are only $4 and comes with two buns. The flavor of the gochujang really adds to the brisket. The pickled cucumber and carrot mixture really adds the tang that the intensity of the gochujang needs. Absolutely delicious.
Another delicious option for the less adventurous eaters is the Shrimp Tempura $5 – Matcha Salt, Tentsuya, Daikon Oroshi. The batter that Dragonfly Izakaya uses to coat their shrimp is one of the best. It’s light and crispy just how you want it to be.
Something fun is the create your own roll or the Ura Maki Roll $5 – Choose 1: salmon, pickled shrimp, yellow tail, tuna. Add your favorites: spicy sauce, eel sauce, tempura flakes, cucumber Make it Special: avocado $1 and Jalapeno $1. I was a super purist and just ordered tuna and spicy mayo because those are the flavors I love. Now, I saved the best for last. The Crispy Pig Ears – Niman Ranch Sustainable Pork, Citric Salt, Nori, Bonito Flakes. Please do not be afraid of these, they are so delicious and only $4! They are reminiscent of bacon in a way, super crispy and flavorful. Definitely worth a try, I would order them again!
All around, Dragonfly Izakaya has such great happy hour specials, they really carefully choose their ingredients and are passionate about their food. Our waiter Kai was so knowledgeable and had answers to every single one of my questions, (super friendly too!)
