Fooqs Miami – Boho Chic Brunch in the A&E District
Fooqs Miami is a cozy farm-to-table restaurant with an eclectic Persian/Bohemian décor and a laid-back vibe in the Miami’s Arts & Entertainment District. Young, but experienced, restaurateur David Foulquier chose what appears to be an unlikely venue location between Downtown and the Wynwood Arts District. We also covered Fooqs dinner menu here.
However, gentrification is slowly, but surely encroaching on the neighborhood, which is home to Miami’s clubs as well as a burgeoning underground scene. Directly across the street is the stunning Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) building, which hosts rotating exhibitions from Latin American artists, and construction sites for luxury condominiums surrounds the area.
After waiting patiently, with my #DogWhoBrunches in a long line at the Fooqs booth at a recent Funday Sunday festival, I arrived to the front just as Chef de Cuisine Bryan Rojas’ two featured dishes were sold out. So, naturally, I jumped to accept a brunch invitation to see what I had missed out on.
Persian, French, Spanish, and other Mediterranean flavors influence the menu featuring locally sourced produce. I started with one of the brunch dishes that I had wanted to try, the Choripapa; a delicious creation of Foulquier’s.
A large bowl arrived garnished with fresh cilantro and green onions and generously filled with Poached Egg and Chorizo Sausage over Hand Cut Frites covered in a Piperade, -stewed peppers and onions that combined for a delectable sauce once mixed with the poached egg. A hearty meal certainly big enough to share, -but, you won’t want to.
Also on the menu, I eyed my very favorite pasta dish, Carbonara. This fabulously rich Italian specialty was served with Pancetta Bacon, Spring Peas, Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese, and liberally sprinkled with fresh Black Pepper over classic Bucatini noodles. Bucatini, also known as perciatelli, is a thick spaghetti-like pasta with a hole running through the center.
The pasta was beautifully topped with an Egg Yolk that I reluctantly broke to thicken the dish with its creamy richness. I enjoyed watching my adorable #DogWhoBrunches eagerly suck up the long Bucatini Pasta Noodles covered with Pancetta and Cheese.
Fooqs does serve Breakfast Booze, – Rose Sangria and Bellinis, as well as beer and wine. However, I had a taste for something both traditional and exotic, just like my meals. Fooqs Ice Tea is a refreshing fusion of chilled Green Tea with Lemongrass, Peppermint, and Ginger, but the blend changes seasonally.
Fooqs Miami is located at 1035 N Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33136. Valet service is now available as well as metered street parking. For reservations or more information, visit: fooqsmiami.com
