So, what is a Float Tank? A Float Tank is a sound-proof tank that holds ten inches of water and one-thousand pounds of epsom salt. The water inside the tank is kept at body temperature to create a no gravity effect. There is also a light inside the tanks to assist with getting in and out of the tanks, but during the float it’s kept off. Then, you no longer hear, see, touch, taste, or smell; all your senses free to relax.
During the floatation, the body goes into a new state of relaxation. This allows more energy to be focused on healing other parts of the body, creating immense feelings of revitalization and rejuvenation. Floats typically last ninety minutes, but sixty minute floats are also available. Float Therapy helps with pain relief, injury recovery, stress relief, athletic training, pregnancy, strengthening of the immune system, and overall healing.
My Experience at Float8 Wellness Lounge
After hearing about Float Therapy from a few of my friends, I decided to do research to find a highly reviewed floating lounge. Immediately Float8 Wellness Lounge came up in my results and after reading the reviews I was sold!
Once I booked the appointment I started to think about what would happen when I would be inside the tank. A little secret, I am afraid of the dark, and I didn’t know if I could lay in a tank for 90 minutes in the dark. But I was determined to try to reach new heights of relaxation and peace.
Upon walking into Float8 Wellness Lounge I was greeted with kind smiles and friendly staff. An immediate sense of comfort came over me as we started the tour of the lounge. As I enter the lounge there is a mediation room on my left. The meditation room has a library of books and an area to read and meditate. The meditation room is a perfect place to relax before and/or after floats. Plus, Float8 Wellness Lounge offers in-lounge services of acupuncture, massage, and reiki by request.
At Float8 Wellness Lounge there are four Float Tanks, including a Float Tank Suite. The suite is designed for taller people and people who want more space. Every float room has a shower to take a pre & post float shower. Everything is provided at the lounge; towels, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, wash cloths, you name it.
Next, I was kindly given easy to follow directions for my float and received a little float prep kit. This held a make-up wipe, ear plugs, and petroleum jelly. This helps prevent water from entering the ears and protect scratches and cuts from the salt water. They really thought of it all.
Finally, time to float! All showered and ready to submerge into peace and quiet. I enter the tank and lay down on my back and start to feel the effect of no gravity. I laid there for a few minutes with my eyes open and the light on observing the tank and my surroundings. Then I closed my eyes and turned off the light ready to face my fear of the dark.
I started off by taking deep breaths very slowly and feeling out each breath. This is my little meditation trick of focusing solely on my breath by counting each inhale and exhale. If you don’t have a meditation routine I recommend counting down from 100 and focusing on your breath. While beginning my meditation, I couldn’t ignore the chatter of my mind, all my to do lists, appointments, and deadlines. But that’s normal. I was also trying to not think about the dark until I realized there is nothing to fear and I am in control of my thoughts. In efforts to relax I decided to take a deep breath and remind myself that this is about me and nothing else matters right now.
After releasing a big exhale and all the worries of my everyday life, I instantly felt a sense of lightness. My spine elongated and I felt straighter and longer. My back and neck were loving it. I continued to focus on my breath and next thing I know I didn’t feel anything, nothing at all. I wasn’t even thinking. Simply just “being“. No thoughts, no stimuli, absolutely nothing. Nothing is more relaxing than that.
Then my float ended by illuminating the tank with lights and soft jets to signal me it’s over. After finishing my float, I was overwhelmed with feelings of bliss, peace, and gratitude. I felt a sense of relief, knowing that everything is going to get done, but sometimes I just need some float time to just “be” and give my mind and body a rest. Ever since then I have fantasized about my next float and when I will get to experience that state of mind again.
