Dun-Well Doughnuts Review – Vegan Donuts Galore
By Katherine Jacobson
We all know that Williamsburg is famous for its trendy hipster vibes and unique style. There are countless places to discover in Williamsburg; so many, in fact, that it can be quite overwhelming. I’ll tell you right now that no matter what you are in the area for, do your taste buds a favor and stop into Dun-Well Doughnuts, a vegan doughnut shop located on Montrose Ave.
They have made over 200 creative flavors and are still counting! They bake twice daily, so you know they are as fresh as they get.
Their laidback vibe, large seating area, and cute interior make it a perfect place to come chat with friends over coffee and vegan doughnuts. Their doughnut flavors range from fruity Apple Pie doughnuts to Chocolate Maple Pecan and everything in between. There is a doughnut for everyone it seems, so picking your flavor is half the fun.
My favorite doughnut is actually one I would have never guessed. Seeing as I am a chocoholic, my jaw dropped when I found that my favorite doughnut flavor was actually Frosted Apple Pie. It was just the right amount of sweetness and fruitiness. The burst of cinnamon was what made this doughnut go from pretty good to incredible. The presentation of the doughnut itself was also spot-on. So my advice to you is to pick a flavor that you’ve never tried, because every single flavor is so delicious, you simply cannot go wrong when choosing. Or, if you’re with a friend, get two doughnuts and split them both. Who knows, maybe Dun-well Doughnuts will surprise you with your new favorite flavor too!
If you’re more of a chocolate person but also love fruity flavors, get the Black Cherry Pie doughnut. The fruit topping and chocolate glaze combination is sure to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. If you’re more in the mood for chocolate, go for the Chocolate Peanut Butter doughnut. They crumble peanuts on top to give the doughnut a delightful crunch in each bite. Two other peanut butter flavors that are worth a try are the Peanut Butter and Jelly and the Chunky Peanut Butter.
The first one is a peanut butter doughnut with a jelly filling, which was yet another flavor that was surprisingly delicious. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Peanut Butter Jelly-Filled Doughnut is the perfect choice. The second is the most peanut buttery peanut butter doughnut I’ve ever had. From the peanut crumble to the glaze to the actual dough part of the doughnut, it is full of nutty goodness. The last is the Maple Chocolate Pecan, a beautiful combination of flavors. The pecan topping and the maple glaze complement each other and the touch of chocolate drizzle adds just enough “umph” without it overpowering the other flavors. A few other unique flavors they make are the Raspberry Pistachio, Piña Colada, Peach Cobbler, Earl Grey Tea, Ginger Snap, and Chai Tea.
In addition to Dun-well Doughnuts wonderful assortment of doughnuts, they also serve coffee, tea, and ice cream.
