District: Donuts. Sliders. Brew
This sign is THE sign that you must find on Magazine Street when looking for a good meal in New Orleans! Whether you are a local in the area or a tourist on vacation, you should definitely fit District Donuts Sliders Brew into your schedule. District is relatively new to our great food city, but the addicting cuisine has already led to the opening of another location serving hand pies and a mobile streetcar—their newest way of bringing the food to the people.
Your senses are immediately overwhelmed when walking into the restaurant. The daily donut display catches your eye while your nose is flooded with aromas of fresh coffee and sliders. The selection of donuts served on our visit featured the new “Plantation Pineapple Express” donut among many of the other favorites such as the Red Velvet. With over 100 different donut recipes, this selection is always changing and calling me back to try new creations
After placing our order with the very friendly cashiers, we picked up our donuts and drinks and found a seat. Deciding from the very broad coffee and drink menu can be tough; however, I always find myself coming back to the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. This drink is strong and delightful, capable of pleasing my taste buds at all hours of the day—not to mention a perfect complement to donuts. The donuts are constantly being made all day long which accomplishes two goals any donut provider should strive for: freshness and availability. I find many donut places to either keep donuts on display for hours on end or close up once selling out. NOT HERE. You can even walk over and watch the artists at work.
As for our donuts, we decided on the Red Velvet and the Pineapple Express which flaunts a light pineapple and rum filling. These two donuts were both delicious, yet very different. This place has donuts for everyone’s taste buds!!
On to the savory dishes! Similar to the donut selection, the slider menu is always bringing new options. We decided on the cheeseburger slider and the blackened chicken slider (two regulars), along with the five-spice duck slider (a special). The sliders are each dressed with their own unique and suitable toppings. Some highlights are the cheeseburger’s homemade pickles, the blackened chicken’s hard-boiled egg and the duck’s granny smith apple. Bringing all these sliders together is the mouth-watering cheese fries. The warm elegant cheese sauce flowing over a bed of waffle fries is perfect for uniting the variety of sliders.
So, no matter if you are looking for breakfast, lunch, or dinner District Donuts Sliders and Brew is the place to go if you find yourself hungry in New Orleans!
