Common Threads, the national non-profit organization fighting childhood obesity by teaching kids healthy cooking skills, will hold a weekend-long Cooking for Life Festival of events in Miami on April 17th through 19th, 2015.
Common Threads will bring their national community committed to positively impacting kids’ health and well being to Miami for an entire weekend. The weekend festival, hosted by Miami Chef Michelle Bernstein and Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, will provide unique opportunities to celebrate healthy cooking. The Cooking for Life Festival will bring together a select group of the country’s most celebrated chefs to support the organization’s mission.
Events include:
- Benefit kick-off dinner Friday evening at Mignonette
- Saturday Culinary Boot Camp at FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality featuring hands-on cooking classes for a limited number of participants
- Dinner with Chef Masaharu Morimoto at the Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach Hotel
- Morning yoga session on the beach
- Five-star fundraising brunch at Seagrape at Thompson Miami Beach highlighting brunch favorites from a number celebrity chefs
Additional participating chefs include Timon Balloo, John Besh, Nina Compton, Erika Davis, Jamie DeRosa, Todd Erickson, Lorena Garcia, Linda Gassenheimer, Sam Gorenstein, Ingrid Hoffmann, Richard Ingraham, Mike Isabella, Stephanie Izard, Dena Marino, Diego Oka, Danny Serfer and Fabio Viviani, among others.
Common Threads currently has programming in 33 schools in Miami. Through hands-on curriculum Common Threads is empowering students and families to cook healthy, working to reverse the trend of childhood obesity and related health complications. The Cooking for Life Festival will create awareness of the important work being done in schools and will raise funds to further strengthen programming in Miami and nationally.
