California Fire Foundation Honor California’s Firefighters at Restaurants
With fire season in full effect, California Firefighters are depended on to help protect the public all the while risking their lives on a daily basis. It’s been a busy season and our firefighters need your support. The non-profit group, California Fire Foundation has partnered up with an amazing array of local businesses and restaurants to help raise funds and bring awareness during September’s Firefighter Appreciation Month. Some of the participating businesses include Bar Lubitsch, Blue Plate Oysterette, Candela Taco Bar & Restaurant, The Den Salon, The Fat Dog, The Improv, kitchen24, Simply Coffee and Tom’s.
The following is taken from an official press release from the California Fire Foundation providing information on what exactly is being offered by each business:
The always open Kitchen 24 has two participating locations in West Hollywood and in Hollywood, both of which will offer 10% off all proceeds from their dine-in and carry-out options to benefit the Foundation on September 14th.
Throughout the entire month of September, Candela Taco Bar & Restaurant has offered to donate a portion of the sales to the California Fire Foundation from every purchase of the Mezcaliente, their rendition of the classic spicy margarita.
Bar Lubitsch has also introduced a drink dubbed The Flame, which will be offered throughout September, with a portion of proceeds benefitting the Foundation.
On the beauty front, Los Angeles-based parlor, The Den Salon, has joined in the festivities and encourages Angelenos to get their red on. They are donating $1 for each “Firefighter Red” Clip-on purchased and $20 for each “Firefighter Red” Hair Coloring.
The Improv on Melrose Avenue has graciously offered to donate ticket sales during one night of performances and has offered a fantastic lineup with Larry Miller as the headliner and acts from comedian Wayne Federman and a surprise line-up of additional comics. All proceeds will go to the foundation that serves the families of fallen firefighters and funds the California Firefighters Memorial.
Blue Plate Oysterette is donating 15% of every Blue Plate Special sold during the month of September.
Simply Coffee is donating $1 all for each sale, all month long, of a custom brew called “Fire Tea Latte” made of organic Hibiscus flower leaves, Vanilla and Milk (Milk substitutions available – Almond, Coconut, Soy).
Tom’s has been kind enough to offer a free cup of coffee to firefighters who show their badge.
The Fat Dog is also generously donating to the California Fire Foundation.
WHY SEPTEMBER?
The attacks on September 11th will always be burned into our hearts and minds as one of the most tragic, devastating events that has ever happened on American soil. Without hesitation, first responders charged head first into the danger zone to save lives of people they did not know. Firefighters are an integral part of our community, protecting our lives, properties and businesses. The month of September is now and forever will be dedicated to not just honoring and paying respect to these extraordinary men and women, but celebrating them.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA FIRE FOUNDATION
In 1987, California Professional Firefighters created the California Fire Foundation, a charitable 501c3 non-profit organization that provides assistance to families of fallen firefighters who protect the community. Its mission is to insure that every brave hero is remembered and recognized for their ultimate sacrifice. Since its inception, the Foundation has recognized that, together with over 30,000 frontline firefighters, they could effectively assist the communities they protect with fire safety education and assistance to fire/disaster victims. The organization funds the California Firefighters Memorial, which was built and unveiled in 2002 to honor those killed in the line of duty. Each year, the Foundation holds a solemn ceremony to commemorate our heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty; this year’s ceremony is being held Saturday, October 15, 2016.
