Burgerliscious 2014 returned for a fourth time to Coral Gables and you could smell the intoxicating scent of grilled patties all the way from the University of Miami campus. Droves of people turned up to see how many fantastic burgers they could stuff into their bellies over a 4 hour period (14 for me over 2.5 hours). The weather, music, beer, and drinks were quite agreeable. We love this event and literally salivate in anticipation of it every year. The judges this year were our friends: Laine Doss (Miami New Times), Nick Pena (Y100), Giovanny Guitierrez (Chat Chow), Cassie Glenn (Yelp) and strangers Fred Gonzalez (Miami.com) and Coral Gables Mayor Jim Cason.

Our favorite burger of the night was the sublime Shrimp Burger from Bread and Butter. It consisted of a Key West pink shrimp patty with plantain relish, frisse greens, and a tartar. I know it sounds blasphemous that a Shrimp Burger would be the best, but it truly was.

The actual winner of the Best in Bun award went to Rok:BRGR for its adorably named Drunken Pretzel Burger, which was comprised of  a prime beef blend patty with aged cheddar, Sam Adams beer mustard and a kick ass warm pretzel bun. This was a damn good burger and one of our favorite of the nights.

 The legitimately popular Pincho Factory took second place for their fabulous  Perfecto Burger, which was topped with jack cheese, caramelized onions, potato sticks and cilantro sauce.

Swine Southern Table & Bar which boasts one of our top 3 burgers in all of Miami took 3rd place at the event with its deliriously phenomenal pork belly double decker burger.

Sushi Maki won our personal favorite burger award last year with their glorious scallop burger. It took the people’s choice award this year for their sushi themed burger that had Ramen crips, asian slaw, caramelized onions, gouda and Siracha russian dressing.

Burgerliscious 2014 was our 3rd rendition and we are straight up addicts at this point. We shall hopefully one day write to you from Burgerliscious 50!!!
