BritWeek Miami 2016 – Bridging the Gap between Florida and the UK
The 4th Annual BritWeek Miami will take place February 10 – 18, and kicks off with VIP Champagne Welcome at the upscale Art Deco hotel, the Delano on Miami Beach. The annual event hosts week-long series of business and cultural events designed to celebrate and build the relationship between the UK and Florida in areas including technology, the creative industries, international trade, finance, and sports.
BritWeek Miami 2016 Event Highlights
Nautical Britain At The Miami Boat Show
Saturday, February 13, 8PM – 11PM
An evening networking reception will be held during the Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show at Sunset Harbour Yacht Club that will bring together a well-rounded group of key industry business contacts and marine conservationists as well as high-net-worth yacht owners.
The event will include live music, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a champagne yacht hop.
A Celebration of Street Art
Open to the public on Sunday, February 14, 3PM – 6PM
Wynwood’s Miami Club Rum will host this live art event with London based Street Artist, Tom Inkie Bindle and Miami based ABSTRK who will each paint a wall on SW 24th street on the theme of multiculturalism. The street artists will test drive the Bentley Continental GT Convertible for a day in order to be able to create a street art interpretation of the perfect setting for a drive.
Refreshments for the event will be provided by Miami Culinary Institute, Miami Club Rum, Belvoir Elderflower Cordial, Highland Spring Water, and music by local artists.
UK Vs. India Invitation Cricket
Monday, February 15, 10AM – 1PM
Legendary Indian cricket star, Farokh Engineer, is flying in from the UK to host the event. The British team, captained by HM Consul-General, Dave Prodger, will include HM The Queen’s eldest grandson and HRH The Princess Royal’s son, Peter Phillips, as well as other players from the British community in and around Miami.
The match will be hosted at Central Broward Regional Park & Stadium, the only cricket stadium in the country, in Lauderhill.
Shakespeare On The Move
Wednesday, February 17, 6PM – 10PM
This event will be host by Miami’s Florida International University (FIU) and the Frost Museum at FIU. The enchanting evening will transport attendees to Shakespeare’s time and back to the present day, in four special acts:
The Spoken Word: FIU English and Drama students will be performing Shakespeare’s sonnets and soliloquies, and debating issues around Shakespeare and literature in surprising pop up moments throughout the Frost Art Museum at FIU during the entire evening event.
Music of the Times: Strolling Minstrels, harpist and other musicians doing special performances throughout the museum and in the outdoor Elizabethan pub complete with a mead bar and food of the times organized by the Florida Renaissance Festival.
Music Inspired by Shakespeare: Dranoff2Pianos with the support of Steinway bring two grand pianos just for this evening to regale guests with music influenced by Shakespeare throughout the ages. World-renowned Canadian concert pianists Anne Louise and Ed Turgeon will be flying in from Toronto for this unique performance and present two separate intimate concerts with presentations on how Shakespeare has influenced music throughout history.
Shakespeare NOW as DJ Maseo of de la Soul, creates an eclectic, free form DJ set to celebrate the British tradition of preserving culture and music through the times to present day.
Open to students and BritWeek event guests on the Lawn at Frost at FIU for a soul and hip hop warm up to the outdoor screening of Hamlet on the wall of the Frost Museum.

BritWeek originated in 2007, in Los Angeles, by British Consul-General, Bob Peirce, and American Idol Executive Producer, Nigel Lythgoe, and first occurred in Miami in 2013.
A portion of proceeds from BritWeek Miami 2016 will benefit The Little Dreams Foundation and its mission towards helping fulfill the dreams of gifted young people in music, sport and art.
