Angelo Elia Bakery Review
If you know me, then you know I have a big sweet tooth. I was more than excited to try out the brand new Angelo Elia Bakery Bar in Fort Lauderdale. Upon walking into the bakery, the first thing you see is their display of cookies, breads, gelato, and pastries. The staff was so nice and accommodating. They even changed the channel on the tv to put on the football game!
I began my food journey with several of Angelo Elia Bakery savory sandwiches. The first was the Tacchino panini. This was by far my favorite dish! It had a generous portion of fontina, turkey, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. The panini also had roasted peppers which, in my opinion, completely heightened the flavor of the whole dish. All the ingredients were sandwiched between crunchy ciabatta bread, which added extra texture to the panini.
Next up was the Piadine, an Italian flatbread common to Northern Italy. It contained a good amount of parma prosciutto, melted stracchino, and arugula. The salty prosciutto was perfectly balanced with the Italian stracchino, and the arugula added a fresh touch to the flatbread. This had to be my second favorite dish of the day.
The last sandwich I got to try was the Tonno panini, filled with your traditional tuna salad, lettuce, and tomato. The pressed slices of bread gave the panini a good crunch that enveloped a very generous portion of tuna salad.
After trying the sandwiches I got to taste the famous cappuccino, decorated by the very talented baristas at Angelo Elia Bakery Bar. I got to enjoy a cappuccino decorated with a leaf and another decorated with the cutest little face. The face was probably the highlight of the whole experience; I still can’t get over it. The best part is trying to drink the coffee without messing up the designs! Absolutely loved every part of it!
Look at that face! So adorable!
Last but not least…… DESSERT! I was presented with an array of different bites. I started with the round lemon pastry. It was topped with what looks like marshmallow puffs but was really a whipped topping, torched for added effect. This one was my favorite from the plate. The lemon flavor was strong, and oh so tart! So for my lemon lovers out there…. I highly recommend ordering this. It was beautifully adorned with a raspberry, and slices of chocolate that had flowers decorated on them. Let’s not forget about the buttery, flaky crust, my favorite part of any pie!
Going clockwise… Next was a sponge cake. It was layered with frosting, topped with flaky puff pastry, and dusted with lots of powdered sugar. Loved the moist cake combined with the flaky puff pastry. The different textures worked harmoniously.
Next was the classic Italian treat, the cannoli. The fried pastry dough was filled with a creamy ricotta-based filling. One end was sprinkled with the traditional chocolate chips, and the other end with pistachios. The cannoli was drizzled with chocolate syrup and dusted with powdered sugar. The crunchy dough, the creamy filling, and the bite of the toppings worked perfect together.
Next to the cannoli was a puff pastry with layers of cream filling in between. The pastry was decorated with a thin layer of frosting and chocolate syrup. A seemingly simple pastry, but tasty nonetheless.
The last dessert to try was another classic, tiramisu. The traditional coffee flavor pulled through generously in this bite. The tiramisu was topped with chocolate dust, whipped cream, and a crunchy, aromatic coffee bean.
Just when I thought we were done, the table was presented with a big bowl of gelato. I got to try the pistachio, Nutella, and stracciatella flavors. It was a close race between the Nutella and stracciatella. The Nutella was rich and chocolatey. The stracciatella was creamy and the big chunks of chocolate added the perfect texture. The pistachio gelato was very nutty, perhaps a bit too much for my liking, but still yummy.
Upon getting ready to leave, the generous staff at the Bakery Bar presented me with a farewell gift. They gave me a goodie bag of their homemade chocolate chip biscotti. I am so grateful for their generosity and hospitality. It was a small detail, but such a great way to end the day!
