Victory Garden- Frozen Yogurt with a Genius Twist
By Katherine Jacobson
Now that the weather has finally warmed up, we can confidently shed our coats and stroll on over to Victory Garden for a truly splendid foodie adventure! For those of you who have not tried their goat’s milk ice creams and soft serves, I highly suggest you get up right now and take the nearest train to try it at this health conscious hideaway right away, (and hey, they’re even open late!). If I still haven’t convinced you, I should also mention that their unique products and innovative combinations stem from quality and reliably sourced ingredients. If you’re STILL not convinced, you should know that goat’s milk has so much nutritional value, that it makes it a guilt-free treat. It is also easy to digest, even for those who are sensitive to lactose. Oh, and not to mention it’s by far the best frozen yogurt I’ve ever had in my life.
And the best part? They just came out with all new flavors! They recently launched their spring specials menu that features sundaes that are out of this world, healthy smoothies, and vegan baked goods. The incredibly talented founder and chef of Victory Garden, Sophia Britton, developed all of these impressive recipes herself.
The first sundae Sophia brought out was called Singing in the Rain which was so phenomenal, I had to go sit down to eat it. It had a goat’s milk soft serve base, and was topped with an intriguing combination of white chocolate matcha sauce, which hardened once it hit the soft serve, as well as just the right amount of raspberry sauce. Of course, they didn’t just stop there…on top of that was heavenly crumbled pistachio praline and homemade mini jasmine marshmallows. This was definitely an unexpected, yet extremely satisfying combination.
I then tried one of their vegan smoothies called the Spring Health Smoothie. Again, what an extraordinary combination! If I had to assign a taste to Spring, this would be it. Here’s what’s inside: spinach, mint, cilantro, lime, coconut oil, bee pollen, dates, banana, and cashew milk. It tasted so fresh and light that it had me feeling impeccable even after the first few sips.
The last one that was served was also a show stopper—the Alfajor Sundae. With a soft serve base, it was drizzled in goat milk caramel and guava sauce. These two I would never expect to pair well, but boy was I wrong. It was then sprinkled with coconut flakes and topped with a homemade gluten-free Alfajor Cookie with caramel sandwiched between. It looked so good it was almost too beautiful to eat! It seemed like every bite I took I let out an “mmmm!”
I’m excited to return in the near future to try their Cheesecake Sundae, Matcha Smoothie and Kulfi Blondies, which are also featured on their Spring menu.
