Bonnie McKee Drops Powerful New Single “Mad Mad World”

By Lauren Johnson

It’s Friday, May 11th, and as we get ready to head into the weekend, leaving our work and our worries (if we’re lucky) behind for a couple of days, Bonnie McKee is here to remind us of an important message with her latest single, “Mad Mad World,” released on May 10.

The glittery, edgy, powerhouse vocalist and songwriter, known for her danceable anthems “Bombastic” and “American Girl” – as well as helping Katy Perry, Brittany SpearsTaio Cruz, and a host of other super stars write their mega hits – composed her latest single on an equally dance-worthy, more serious note.

Written shortly after the Las Vegas shooting last year in October, the song acutely touches all of the nerves that we as a society felt so acutely after the horrific events that unfolded not only on October 1, but across the world with increasing frequency in the last few years.  “Mad Mad World” expresses the collective desire to sometimes take a break from it all and shield ourselves from the news with haunting lyrics like “I need a vacation. I just need a break right now.” According to Bonnie, “the underlying message of the song is that today more than ever, people need to come together, pay attention to what’s happening around the world, stand up against hate and make their voices heard.”

Currently on a national tour with Kygo, the famous Norwegian DJ, record producer, and songwriter, Bonnie McKee will be playing at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Friday, May 11 and, in a surprise announcement, at the Metropolitan Bar in Williamsburg to celebrate the release of “Mad Mad World.”

Before wrapping up her national tour at one of the world’s most famous EDM festivals – Electric Daisy Carnival out in Las Vegas – Bonnie will make additional stops on her tour with Kygo at Boston (TD Garden) on May 12 and Atlanta (Shaky Beats) on May 13.
