Traymore Gin Bar Miami–An Elegant Social Hour at Metropolitan by COMO

The Traymore Gin Bar at Metropolitan by COMOMiami Beach showcases an eclectic collection of more than 40 gin brands from around the world. Along with fellow Gin Connoisseurs, we crossed the Art Deco-inspired hotel’s elegant soft grey and cream marbled lobby, and stepped up to the Italian granite bar alongside The Traymore Restaurant.

We were there for the return of Traymore’s Thursday evenings’ Ladies and Gintlemen, a series of Craft Gin specials and Gin and Tonic flights served from 7 until 10PM.

A Gin and Tonic, or ‘G&T’, is a classic summertime highball made with gin and tonic water, (a bittersweet a carbonated soft drink), poured over ice, and typically garnished with a wedge of lime.

Choosing between the three specialty flights was not easy, but I evidently settled on the Modern Flight over the Timeless and Adventurous themed tastings. After all, there would another opportunity to sample another flight next Thursday.

My handcrafted Gin and Tonic flight’s gin selection included Nolet’s Silver (Holland), St Augustine (Florida), Death’s Door (Wisconsin), and my Top Shelf go-to, Hendricks (Scotland).

First up, Nolet’s Silver Dry Gin with citrusy Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic mixer and garnished fresh Raspberries. I first sipped Nolet’s neat, and found it to be floral and fruity. The completely built drink had an exotic perfume-ly taste that I enjoyed very much.

My taste impression of St Augustine’s hand made Gin mixed with East Imperial Superior Tonic and Sugar Cane Juice was citrus-y and, naturally, saccharine.

Hendricks, which is infused with Cucumber and Rose essences after distilling, was sweet and green after combined with Fever Tree Indian Tonic and a Cucumber slice.

Last, but definitely not least, the zingy botanical Death’s Door, distilled with fennel seeds, which was nicely tempered by highly floral Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic and a Lemon slice for garnish.

Honestly, each potent Gin and Tonic sample was so uniquely delicious that I did not have a clear-cut favorite.

In addition, the Traymore Gin Bar hosts a Gin Bar Social Hour every day, between 5PM and 7PM and later in the evening, between 10PM and 11PM, with bar menu pairings. The twice nightly happy hour event offers a number of drink specials that includes Gin and Tonics with Fever Tree Tonic or Imperial Tonic ($6), house liquors or select wines ($8) as well as Specialty Cocktails ($10) designed by its resident mixologist, Alex Santiago.
