South Beach Comedy Festival Review

2015 South Beach Comedy Festival Review

While comedians across the country love to laugh at our screwed up state of Florida, it was us laughing our asses off at them at the 2015 South Beach Comedy Festival. While sadly, I was not able to see all the comedians this year, I did manage to see Patton Oswalt and Bill Burr, both who were beyond incredible.

Patton Oswalt got his big break voicing the lead in the animated film Ratatouille and is in a bunch of solid shows now including VEEP and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Patton is brilliant, swift and hilarious as evidenced by the nice chunk of time he spent extemporaneously roasting members of the audience. Some of his best pieces involve how horrible Florida is, calling our beloved state, not the dick, but the balls of the USA and added that there are probably five people with bags of cocaine smuggled inside their bodies in the audience right now. His voice and cadence alone had me crying from laughter. He also poked fun at gay radicals of today compared to yesteryears, and how easy it is for old people to get prescription drugs. Here is a set for you to fully comprehend his mastery of funny.

Bill Burr was the other funny bastard I saw, with a heavy emphasis on bastard. Bill is a pretty evil and messed up dude with a hilarious mean streak that has blown him up globally. His malevolence can be gleaned from his piece on fantasizing about running pedestrians over. Bill had a magnificent set recounting speeding through the airport, discussing the difference between women prostitutes vs. male gigolos, and a stellar piece on how lucky we are that Kanye West is black, because if he was was white he’d be the next Stalin. Check out how funny Bill is below.

The South Beach Comedy Festival always brings in some of the top comedians in the world. This year, they also has a bunch of free shows in the Jackie Gleason Theater. Make sure you do not miss it next year!
