Spanakopita, kibby, hummus, pita, konefa… these are just some of the amazing dishes the Egyptian culture has to offer. Lucky for us the Saffron Supper Club hosts amazing Mediterranean themed dinners with tantalizing dishes every month at a different host restaurant. This month I got to join the Saffron Supper Club in The Garden at Mina’s Mediterraneo and it was a wonderful experience.

To begin with…. The Garden at Mina’s is absolutely breathtaking. The perfect spot to host such an intimate dinner. Upon entering The Garden you are greeted with a delicious Dusty Rose Craft cocktail and light bites. The cocktail was refreshing and light. But my favorite was the spanakopita! It was fresh out of the oven, still warm, flaky, and gooey. The Kibby was also tasty and came with a tahini-based sauce that added that extra lunch of flavor. So far a great start to the dinner.

Waiting at the tables was an amazing array of 6 different dips, including the classic hummus and tzatziki dips. All next to a basket of fresh, homemade pita chips. I had to control myself at this point. There’s nothing more I like that chips and dip, but we had a full dinner ahead of us. I didn’t want to spoil my appetite.

We started off with a Shirazi Persian country salad. This salad was delicious! I’m pretty sure everyone went back for seconds. It wasn’t a glorious combination of different veggies, including cucumber, carrots, red and green bell peppers, tomatoes, all mixed into a light sauce. So many spices in this salad, I was in heaven. Such a crisp and clean start to the Saffron Supper Club dinner.

Next up was the Zucchini Bechamel. This was AMAZING. the best dish of the whole night. It was so creamy and bursting with flavor. Perfectly seasoned and fresh out the oven. The top layer of melted cheese did it for me. I definitely went back for seconds.

One of the side dishes was the Persian rice with golden crust. The saffron was very pronounced in the rice, making it just as amazing to eat on its own. But the best part was getting to the bottom of the dish. The crusty ends at the bottom of the dishes held the special bites. Taking a bite of this crunchy, salty rice was the best part!

The finale! We ended the night with Konefa, an Egyptian dessert made of shredded phylo and stuffed with custard and rose water. The custard brought the dish together. It brought a creamy finish to the flaky dessert. And the rose water was just a perfect finish. The Konefa’s sweet syrupy flavor was perfectly balanced with the less sugary custard. Although we were served a very generous portion, I wish we could’ve had seconds! It was just too good!
