Roadhouse Restaurant and Inn Review – A South of SF Treat

Roadhouse Restaurant and Inn Review

Along Pacific Coast Highway are beautiful beaches, scenery, and quaint small towns. But unlike other small towns, these sites are bustling every weekend and the food scene is nothing short of amazing. This is no surprise when it comes to cuisine in the Bay Area.

Located sixty miles south of San Francisco is the charming town of Davenport. This tiny town has a few spots a true foodie is sure to catch! One such spot is Roadhouse Restaurant & Inn. Our first encounter was for a late night snack. The dessert display was full of decadent sweets but the Berry Tart immediately caught my eye. As the gentleman tallied our bill, he told us that the creator of this dessert is a local French pastry chef and we were in for a real treat. He wasn’t lying. I can still imagine each bite and the surprise of finding a layer of chocolate coating on the inside of the tart shell.

I was still daydreaming of the Berry Tart the next day so we strolled over to Roadhouse to have another. Outside we can hear the live music, laughter, and clinking of glasses. I was initially disappointed by the lack of Berry Tarts as I peered into the restaurant but my attention was immediately stolen away by the golden caramel hue of the Pear Tart. I thought the Berry Tart couldn’t be beat but the pear was just as enjoyable. This tart was filled with a soft whole pear and the flavor of the pastry was perfectly sweet.

On the first floor of Roadhouse is an open area restaurant and bar. The large doors open to the outside to bathe the dining room with sunshine and sea breeze. Because I was already smitten by the desserts, we decided to start our day at Roadhouse with a wholesome breakfast before heading back to San Francisco. Because Davenport is surrounded by local farms, the food at Roadhouse is fresh and locally sourced. The entire menu looked appetizing but my Crab Benedict obsession quickly took hold. My heart immediately sank when I was told they were out of crab. However, the crab could be substituted with salmon. I’m thankful to have accepted the recommendation! The Salmon Benedict looked and tasted delightful.

We also had the Signature Huevos Rancheros and were pleasantly surprised. Spicy food from anywhere but the Southwest can’t compare but this came in a very close second.

Next time we head south, Roadhouse will certainly be on our list of stops.
