Miami is very familiar with the term Ay Papi, but true liquor aficionados say it a bit differently: Ay Pappy!  Pappy Van Winkle is a bourbon with an intense cult following.

Around 25 years ago barely anybody knew about Pappy Van Winkle, because the distillery in Frankfort, Ky. produces only 7,000 cases per year.  That changed in 1996 when the Beverage Institute gave a 20-year-old bottle of Pappy a 99 out of 100, its highest score ever for a whiskey! Drinkers got wind and its popularity has soared to the stratosphere.

Now its bottles are some of the most sought-after in the world. A 23-year-old can run to more than $3,000 when resold. I know Friends who pay off liquor store workers to get a heads up when they are coming in. People go bananas for this Pappy and now you have the opportunity to try it at a Pappy Van Winkle Dinner.

Honoring the inauguration of the iconic Fontainebleau Miami Beach in 1954, Cellar 1954 is a monthly dinner series that highlights and pairs the world’s most prestigious wines and spirits with the award-winning cuisine of the restaurant’s signature dining spots. For July’s Cellar 1954, StripSteak by Michael Mina will host an exclusive Pappy Van Winkle Dinner on Friday, July 21, 2017. Pappy Van Winkle is the flagship brand of bourbon whiskey owned by the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery and regarded as one of the world’s finest and most exclusive bourbons on the market.

Beginning at 8 p.m., guests will enjoy a four-course dinner prepared by StripSteak’s culinary team paired with 10, 12 and 13-year-old Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon. Dinner will be followed by a nightcap of 15, 20 and 23-year-old Pappy and a cigar pairing in the restaurant’s lower deck. The dinner is priced at $350 per person (all inclusive). Seating is very limited!
