We all love Latin and Japanese food, so when you can find a spot that fuses these flavors together it is worth checking out. OBBA Sushi Coral Gables is a savory and at times spicy blend of Latin and Japanese fusion, offering more than 30 original sauces and over 100 dishes to choose from. The menu was created by Argentine Chef, Walter Zapata. OBBA Sushi has a sleek venue with a crying waterfall, ivory leather chairs and lofty ceilings that lend to its commodious nature. We had a solid meal there and barely dented the extensive menu. Check out our OBBA Sushi Coral Gables review video.
Before you even look at the menu you need to order this drink. Forget mojitos because we are going Japanese with stupendous Sakitos. It’s basically a mojito with sake instead of rum. It has such a beautiful and refreshing flavor that is far superior to the original concoction. We had about 4 of these glorious libations.
One of the best plates of the day was the OBBA Sandwich – shrimp tempura, seafood salad, avocado & chives with spicy katzu sauce. The sticky wet rice forms possibly the most interesting sandwich in the world. Definitely worthy of Señor Dos Equis’s approval.
The Yellowtail Guacamole Tartar is composed of Yellowtail, masago, avocado, shizo, sesame, sriracha, micro greens, cucumber, and ginger yuzu. This is the perfect dish to order when you don’t want to feel like a fat kid. It’s light, citrusy, yellowtail and plenty of healthy avocado satisfies. The grape tomatoes and sliced cucumbers further add to the fresh delicious (freshlicious) sensation. You’ll be happy with it, as will your waistline.
Obba Sushi also has a fantastic Happy Hour where you can get half priced drinks and rolls. Check out their Happy Hour menu below.
Sakitos? Are you kidding me?! Genius!
